"It's true that all the men you knew
Were dealers who said they were through
With dealing every time you gave them shelter..."

Been waiting a long time for this one, so I hope that's the case.

Quite simply my favorite movie not yet released on blu ray (subjectively) and one of the best movies in general not yet released on blu ray (objectively). This movie is like a dream.

Anyway, that drawing does look like McCabe, but the fact that he's pushing some kind of a cart is less encouraging because I don't remember him doing that in the movie.

the cart is the clue(s) for another film(s), Lone Wolf and Cub.

Oh okay, I didn't realize that seeing it cropped like that. If true, I can't wait!

oh. man. Not only would this be amazing news because I've been pining for this movie every time a 'criminally not on bd' or wishlist thread pops up, but because it means WB would finally be farming some popular titles out to boutique labels.

And in that case... maybe there'd be hope for The Thing and Freaks. But I'm probably jumping the gun....

WB has farmed out several titles - Badlands, Heaven & Earth, Day For Night - and Criterion already said they made deal with them for several titles. But don't expect them to give up much (and The Thing is Universal anyway).

He meant the original The Thing From Another World which is Warner.
Although they said they want to do it themselves but are looking for good materials.

This film has been in my Top Ten list of favorite films for years and years. Glad it's finally coming to Blu ray.

I hope that they incorporate the bridge from the movie into the cover or disc artwork:

Or this shot from the movie, so beautiful:

Such an atmospheric movie.

Also, it will be interesting if Criterion use the rare "Kinney Shield" Warner logo from the period that was only used a couple of years and a handful of movies, one of which is McCabe:

I can't think of a movie that would benefit more from a serious restoration. This film is an absolute masterpiece. There are so many Altman films that deserve BD upgrades. "Brewster McCloud", "Images", "California Split", "A Wedding", "Popeye", "Streamers", "Kansas City", just to name a few. Even "Quintet" would be great if someone is willing to release it.

Gotcha.

Well, it's coming out in Japan, so maybe a US release could be on the way...

Thanks. Forgot those three. But yeah, I meant The Thing From Another World (1951) which WB has.

I've never seen this movie, but I've read so many users on here requesting it. I'll have to rent. Is it similar to Jeremiah Johnson.

One of my most-wanted BDs period, and easily my most-wanted western. Day 1 purchase for sure.

Default Warner Archive would be the ones releasing a blu ray.

Warner won't give this title up. If anyone is to release it on blu it would have to be Warner Archive Collection. They have been streaming an awesome looking HD print on their streaming channel (but since took it off).
This is one of those Altman titles deserving a Criterion release with Warren Beatty and Julie Christie's cooperation with interviews or commentary.

What would the drawing be of then? It looks pretty much identical with the character.

Excellent news, if true. McCabe & Mrs. Miller is one of my favorite Altman movies, and one I consider an almost "anti-western", in that it goes against many of the mainstream shoot-em-up westerns that we're all used to.

Really enjoyed the story & bleak/desolate frontier setting. Extremely well-done & underrated film.
