United Kingdom Day of the Outlaw (Andre De Toth)

Day of the Outlaw Blu-ray REVIEW

Outstanding film. The best addition to Eureka Entertainment's catalog in 2015!

Buy it

Hopefully Crime Wave and Slattery's Hurricane will come out on Blu-ray as well.

Great review. Many thanks. Actually ordered this one last night - looking forward to watching as a primer for The Hateful Eight.

Good review - thanks! I think you left out one special feature though - according to the menu screen there is a music and effects track.

This is a terrific western with a fine cast. I will add that anyone basing a purchase on the poster cover art will be disappointed-
[Show spoiler]no scene in the film comes remotely close to that. The worst thing that happens to Tina is she gets her hair and make-up mussed up dancing with the outlaws.

This one has a very nice reversible cover that I prefer to the cover art shown here.

Agreed, the reversible cover is probably my favourite of 2015 (along with MoC's Seconds).

Sifox211,

Thank you for catching this, It is actually part of my script so I am going to look up the fields now to see what happened.

Edit: All of the codes were fine. Most likely the system cut off the text when it was updating early in the morning, which is when the review was posted (there is a bit of lag then). It is fixed now.

There is a picture on the booklet explaining the aspect ratio and showing there should be a sliver of a letterbox on the top and bottom of the screen. I couldn't get that no matter what I did to the size of my screen and had to go to the TV's menu. I went through every one of them - standard, movie etc.. and it wouldn't turn up correct until I put it on "game" and then it was correct. I guess I have been watching movies in the wrong mode for years. I now notice that all movies now have more picture info. Can anybody explain this? Why on earth would "game" be the right mode to watch it in?

Probably because games have HUDs (head-up displays) which are placed at the corners of the screen and require the full ratio to be visible.

You need your TV to be set on Underscan (or have Overscan off), all the old CRT TVs used to be set on Overscan, but you should be able to switch it over now. You want picture settings on your TV, probably advanced settings. On my Panasonic Plasma it's under advanced settings & 16:9 Overscan is switched to off.

It really never dawned on me that the size button on my TV remote would not get me every size, but pushing menu on my TV remote would. Anyway, it gives me a good excuse to go back and watch all my movies and I am grateful to this movies booklet for pointing out what the correct aspect ratio looks like. I thought I would throw this information out in case anybody else out there has been watching in the wrong ratio. Thanks for all the replies.
