Update:
Westworld will be the first (non documentary) TV show released on 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray. Season 1 will be released on 09.11.17. The UHD version contains 6 discs, three for UHD discs and 3 for the regular Blu-ray version. There will also be a special UHD Steelbook version. Which one of the following shows (old or new seasons) will be released on UHD-BD first? Do you think any TV show will get a UHD-BD release at all? Available shows with 4k DI/DSM for possible release:
* means VFX Rendered in 2k (DI 4k) ** means Documentary series ***UHD 16:9 restoration of The Shield planned to be finished by March 2017 (Update: Delayed to late 2017) Last edited by Wiidesire; 07-07-2017 at 06:28 PM. |

One of the Sony properties, probably Breaking Bad, will come first.

The Wire was only scanned in 4k AFAIK. DI was created in 2k. Colors would have to be corrected all over again for HDR. I don't think that's going to happen.

I'm already annoyed that a lot of TV series I'd love to own on Blu-ray went DVD-only instead. If someone were to cackle "great! there shouldn't be any TV shows on Blu-ray anyway", screw that. |

I look at how some tv series were treated on regular Blu-ray then have to wonder will they bother? If they gave up on BD why would they pick up on UHD?
I can see series that were filmed in 4k making it but I don't have much hope for many others. |

I'm only collecting what shows could make it to a UHD-BD release based on their DI/DSM. Doesn't mean it's likely.
I could also make an even more wider separate list of shows that have the potential for UHD-BD, e.g. shot on 16/35mm. But that's a very long list. Even without research, Psych, Monk, Malcolm in the Middle, The O. C., Chuck, Burn Notice and for 35mm Ghost Whisperer, 24, 30 Rock, Flashpoint, The Mentalist, Fringe, True Blood and Lost come to mind. |
