The townsfolk of a rural community are dying in strange and gruesome circumstances. Following the trail of horrifically mutilated cadavers, resident health inspector Mike Brady is on the case to piece together the mystery. He soon comes to a terrifying conclusion giant slugs are breeding in the sewers beneath the town, and they re making a meal of the locals!

Based on the novel by acclaimed British horror author Shaun Hutson, Slugs outdoes its creature feature peers by adding an extra dose of gross-out gore into the equation, culminating in one of the most squirm-inducing animal attack movies ever to slither its way across screens.

I have fond memories of renting Slugs on VHS during the late 1980s. It's a pretty gory flick, but it's also a solid when-animals-attack story.

Sweet man, this one is a guilty pleasure since i was 7 when i rented it on video when it first hit video stores and thought it was a nice rip-off of Squirm and one of the better killer creepy crawlies film and from the guy who made the MST3K fave Pod People and Pieces.

Slugs is one of those true video store classics for me. Some friends and I picked it up at Blockbuster back when I was in high school, and we had a blast watching it. Can't wait to see it again on blu. I got an email today that my B&N order was delayed a week (not sure why), but as long as I have it by Halloween, I'm good.

It's a really "bad" when animals attack film, and the animals are slugs. I find it completely hilarious. It doesn't feel tongue in cheek at all, but there are some lines and scenes where I have to imagine they all knew they were making something ridiculous. Good, stupid fun.

Same director as Pieces (which I also love) and The Rift (which I have yet to pick up).

Mondo Digital seems to be the first review up, and after reading it the new commentary track is a definite priority:

If you needed any more motivation to buy this film on Blu-ray, Arrow clinches it with the one extra every fan would want: a new audio commentary with Shaun Hutson. Yes indeed, the British horror writer is on hand with moderator Michael Felsher to Slugsshare every thought he could possibly have on the novel and the film: going into the surprising real-life basis behind the idea of carnivorous slugs, dismissing any potential symbolic reading into his work, recalling writing the novelization of The Terminator and not being a James Cameron fan, feeling "fiercely protective" of both the book and the film, and proudly noting, "If somebody reads one of my books and ends up vomiting, fine! I've done my job as far as I'm concerned." It's an absolute blast to hear and likely to rank as one of the most entertaining chat tracks this year, including an especially perceptive breakdown in the final stretch about the reasons for the decline of horror fiction's reputation in the wake of The Silence of the Lambs.

I remember this film fondly and will be picking it up.
Many many years ago on a family trip to the USA I took the book with me to read (I was about 12 at the time) and remember reading aloud the part in the greenhouse which went into some great and gory detail. I know my dad doesn't like the sight of blood or anything related as it always makes him feel unwell... this probably wasn't well thought out by me as my dad was driving at the time, fortunately he shouted and told me to shut the F*$k up as he was getting close to passing out. Oops
