2x BD is about the same speed as 8x DVD.

Yeah it takes a while - close to an hour iirc.

Pioneer second gen drive should do DL discs and be 4x.

The Pioneer gen 1 only does single layer discs. This Sony one should handle DL discs no problem.

Actually, Blu-ray (recorders--no movie playing function) has been in Japan since 2003.

The forum has been here already for a while...

And people have been talking about Blu-ray Disc since 2003. The BDF (Blu-ray Disc Founders), was formed in 2003 if I'm not mistaking. It was in 2004 succeeded by the BDA...

And yeah, Sony's BWU-100A seems nice.

I guess I am really old

As noted the first Japanese players were released in April 2003.

People like myself have been following the international rollout since those times.

25 GB = 200,000 Mbits

2x speed = 72 Mbits per second

200,000 Mb/72Mbs = 2778 seconds = 46+ minutes

About half a GB per minute.

(4x speed = 23+ minutes. A GB/m)

mmmm.. I've been coming here (lurking) and mentioning this website in other forums since 2004. Maybe I should change my join date
