You know people are always criticizing members (myself included) who create new threads for topics that have been discussed over and over and I think I just found out why. The search function on this site is really, really bad.
I was just trying to find a thread I saw last week. I didn't pay too much attention to it at the time so I don't know all of what was said in the post but I have the general jist of the topic and I can't find that thing to save my life using the search feature. I'm guessing other have had this issue since we have so many duplicate threads. Can someone take a look at that? Please. |

Agreed, though it's not just this forum. It's every forum that uses vBulletin. It's a constant problem. I think we'd be better off doing google searches of forum.blu-ray.com, you'd probably get better results that way.
See, people here get so ornery when you post a thread about something they've already seen before. Some of them obviously have a lot of time on their hands, because it doesn't matter what you post, they'll complain about it. Anyway, I tried to find a thread I saw about "Sin City" one day. I searched for "Sin City", and of course it said that the word sin was either too common or too short. That's really helpful. So instead it searched for the word city. Apparently the word city is not common on this forum ![]() Dumb. Needs fixing, and it needs to stop editing my searches when I am searching for movie titles. Otherwise, yeah, I'll post a thread you've already seen before, and you can be a baby about it all you want. Thanks for bringing this to the moderators attention, SamInNorthCakalakey. Us Cakalakians have to band together in this world of horrible forum search buttons. |

The easiest way to search is using the advanced serach option and then checking the box for search titles only. This yeilds the most (accurate) results, but I do agreee that the search feature does need to be updated...

Also if you remember a particular word used on the thread about the subject, making it search for that on the text, showing reults as posts and limiting the forums searched to one forum gives me the fastest way to find what I'm looking for.
I can skim over the resulting list of posts and read their first few words till I recognize the post, or see that it's inside the thread I'm looking for. |

Thanks for the responses fellas.
On the searching part, for instance I tried to find a post about the differences between Y, Cb, Cr and RGBPC (HDMI) and which is better to use. Saw it last week in here and couldn't find anything on those search terms. Quote:

I don't know, to me it's like when you were a kid, working on a school project and you ask your parents how to spell phrenetics and they say "why don't you look it up?" and your response is "If I knew how to find to find it in the F'n dictionary I could figure out how to spell it now wouldn't I?"
Same thing here, people honestly try to find previous posts prior to adding their own but who wants to try 3-4 times to find something. |

But there is a situation that I am not so forgiving about. I am tired of people who come onto this forum and actually know there is a search function and are too lazy to use it. Trust me, I've had several "conversations" with different members who could care less about the search function and have told me that they didn't care if it had been posted 100 times before, they didn't want to have to look it up. It's really better that I don't express my emotions on that subject... Last edited by Mericalis; 12-24-2007 at 01:51 AM. Reason: clarification and wording |
