The new feature film project from Song of the Sea and Secret of Kells maker Cartoon Saloon, has entered animation production. The hand-drawn film will mark the solo feature directorial debut of Nora Twomey, who co-founded Cartoon Saloon in 1999 and co-directed the studio’s Oscar-nominated debut The Secret of Kells.

Breadwinner is scheduled to be completed in summer 2017, with distribution confirmed for Canada (Elevation Pictures) and Ireland/UK (Studiocanal). Other territories will be announced in the future.

esteban², you and all of these animated films. I can't keep up! I really like The Secret of Kells, but I couldn't get into Song of the Sea. This looks interesting, though. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for it.

@JWFord, Kells was a pleasant surprise, since I didn't expect it to be that layered, wonderful and for all ages. Ended up loving it. Still didn't have the chance to see Song of the Sea, unfortunately it didn't came out on blu ray over here.

@Blumscaw, not sure a I'm following ...

Yes, I was also pleasantly surprised by The Secret of Kells. It was my first introduction to the studio. Song of the Sea was beautifully animated, but the story lost my interest.

The Breadwinner will premiere at Toronto next month.

Curious if this will once again be an Oscar contender coming from the studio.

A major animation festival is coming to Los Angeles for the first time in many years. The inaugural edition of Animation Is Film is set to to take place October 20-22 at the TCL Chinese 6 Theater in Hollywood. Besides screenings, the festival will also include red carpet premieres, filmmaker Q&As, receptions, both juried and audience awards, and other special events.

This will be the Breadwinnerpremiere for the US.

Don't know about the US, but this is on NETFLIX for a lot of foreign countries now.

Nominated for the Academy Awards, Golden Globe Awards and many others. Winner of several Annie Awards, including 'Best Animated Feature - Independent'.

I really liked this and Song of the Sea, haven't gotten to see The Secret of Kells yet.

Unfortunately, it's only been released on DVD here in Canada.

(and it's not on Netflix here either)

In that case, you'll enjoy Secret of Kells, since better than Song of the Sea, which I also liked.

Same problem here, btw. We don't have these on BR.

And the DVD's don't have the original version, only dubbed. All three movies.

obviously changes were made from the book to the movie version, but the ending of the movie was such a humdinger (unlike the book)

I finally watched The Secret of Kells recently, bought it on iTunes for $6.99, and I liked it.
However, I personally liked Song of the Sea and The Breadwinner more.
