Default Onkyo 605 help

Hi all,

I have a real newbie question here, i cannot get any of the new HD sound formats to display on my Onkyo 605. I have a feeling that its my player which is causing the problem. Current setup, Samsung BD-p1000 connected to the Onkyo via HDMI, the player is set to Bitstream for audio output.

Any help or advice, or do i need to get a new player?

Cheers

Rich

Make sure the hdmi audio on your receiver is set to off or no. I have the same receiver and that's what did the trick.

This setting is already set to off, yet still no hd sound.

Not sure the Samsung BD-P1000 is capable of bitstreaming hd audio. Which hd audio are you referring to Dolby True HD, DTSMA, or Uncompressed PCM?

Dolby True HD, DTS-HD. I had a feeling it was the player.

There are not very many players that are capable of bitstreaming hd audio, and also few that can decode it and send it pcm. Make sure you set your player for LPCM for now so that you can at least listen to Uncompressed PCM if it is present on your movie. If you are looking to be able to bitstream for hd audio I think your best bet would would the Panasonic DMP-BD30K. If anyone else has suggestions they are welcome as I have no experience with this player only know that it is capable of bitstreaming True HD and DTSMA

You'd have to jump to the BDP-1400 to bitstream the hi-def audio formats. I think that is the cheapest one capable of bitstreaming it. Not sure, but the Sony BDP-S300 also may be able to.

Thanks , I got the Onkyo, so hopefully all goes well til I can afford to upgrade the player. Would the PS3 or bdp-s500 be able to do it?

the PS3 can decode Dolby TrueHD, but not Dts-HD Master (yet). If you're a gamer or just want a Media Center (internet browsing also), get the PS3.

If not get the Panasonic DMP-BD30K...that would be the ideal standalone player for the 605.
