I'm glad to inform you that Fassbinder's «Berlin Alexanderplatz» just got released on Blu Ray in Germany by Arthaus / Studio Canal :

Thanks for posting this. It's good to know that it's being released on Blu - hopefully Studio Canal will eventually release it in the UK with English subs.

Oh noooo !
You're right - they did not add any subtitles to the German release. What a pity !
I mean we're living in the 21st century after all. One mustn't ignore all the enthusiasts abroad. As a german I'm always surprised by the vivid interest in german cinema. Especially in the so called ,,Neuer Deutscher Film" / "New German Film" as it appears to me. You, the British, were the first to release Blu-Ray-Collections of mayor NDF-directors: I bought my Herzog-Collection from the BFI and my Fassbinder-Collection from Arrow. I'm so grateful...
It's a shame the guys from Arthaus did not show their appreciation by including english subs to "Berlin Alexanderplatz"...

They might have been contractually obligated not to include them, depends on rights issues.
