If this looks anything like as thin and low contrast as their remastered Blu does then it's going to be a massive waste of time, like the 4K Argento cut of Dawn of the Dead. And something tells me it'll be SDR 709 just like Dawn as well.

I surely won't enter the "how is it supposed to look" debate, but at any rate, I think there's room for improvement resolution wise (i.e. reg. grain) in regard to their blu.

So I think this will still be interesting - even with SDR (which I also suspect it will be). Let's see.

I can't tell whether you're ragging on the IT Blu-ray Disc, the IT Dawn of the Dead 4K UHD, or both. I have the IT BD, and I found it to be the best presentation of this film currently available hands down.

Should a competent 4K UHD be created for it, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. However, from reading about the Dawn of the Dead 4K UHD debacle, and having poor luck with the DE Texas Chainsaw Massacre 4K UHD, I won't pull the trigger on this to until I read a lot of user reviews.

Both. I thought the remastered Suspiria Italian Blu-ray looked nice but it suffers in the black levels/contrast. If the UHD is indeed SDR 709 - that's it's just a 4K res version of that same thin, milky source - then for me it'll be verging on useless. That's what I meant about the 4K Dawn, it's in SDR 709 and offers such a minuscule upgrade on what is a pretty ****ing poor Blu-ray that it was a huge disappointment.

Funny, just watched this last night on Amazon Prime. Or well, I watched like half an hour and it was kinda late so I dozed off. But I liked what I saw so far. My first Argento flick.

Surely Synapse will do a proper 4K release in 2027, just in time for the film's 50th anniversary.

Too often I've found these foreign, to me, imports of horror titles, or at least titles not commonly found in other markets, don't have HDR. At which point, I have to ask what's the point? I know that a transfer has to be HDR graded, and I'm sure that it would be an improvement over the BD even without HDR. But if they want me to double-dip on this title, then this Videa Cde release had better have HDR.

So the UK one is basically the same as the Italian UHD as they are based on the same master, also meaning no HDR for the UK edition?

No clue regarding HDR, but yeah, it looks like they'll be using the German (TLE Films) restoration, the same one as the Italian 4K Blu. I'm sure it'll look fine but Synapse has the edge, other than passing on a 4K release for now. :/

I already have the Synapse version on order, but I will gladly get this one as well, depending on the UHD specs. Since it’s crowd funded one would think that Cult Films would be upfront when the time comes.

Interesting news. That said, I really don't like the words crowd-funded and limited edition. Limited to how many copies? There is always a big risk with such expensive releases, as have been showcased with Arrow, that these limited editions are sold out prior to release date, meaning you are buying a pig in a poke.

Educated guess but as it's the TLE restoration it might be the same restoration feature as the one from the German Bluray.
