Default the effect of hardware for the Warner going blu exclusively decision

This will finally pole vault PS3 to the top of the current generation of video game consoles. If Hd/dvd does eventually die (which now looks to be official), sony will have the only system that can already play the NEW format.

all the xbox360 lovers (rather ps3 haters who have never played the system or used it to watch hd movies) are now going to see microsoft's system give way to the PS3. already some more games that rival xboxs have been released (uncharted, for example), and now if there is only one hd format, microsoft will HAVE to make a drive for it for their new system. people will just end up buying the ps3 instead, and eventually sony will once again when the console generation.

oh, and more blu rays. woohooo

To each their own, but speaking as both a gamer, and as someone who recently bought a PS3 (primarily for the use of it as a Blu-Ray player), there's little on the system game-wise that is peaking my interest. So far I only have Motorstorm which came with my 80gig system, and I've borrowed a game from a buddy of mine (and will likely borrow more soon), though nothing is really jumping out at me as being a "must play". I also have the 360 and the Wii, and I find more on both of those systems that I am interested in than on the PS3.

I may eventually get some games that come out cross platform on PS3 just to build up a collection for this system, but it depends on how it compares to the 360 counterpart. Sometimes the 360 versions get more support and will have more downloadable content (which, I hate the concept of downloadable content... I'd rather it all be built into the game from the get-go, but if it's going to be around no matter what, I'd rather have the option to use it). Also, despite the PS3 techinically being technically supperior, since the system has sold less, many games are designed for the 360, but then ported to the PS3 and that often results it in the PS3 version being no better (sometimes worse) than the 360 version. But if an occassion occurs where there's no significant difference between the two versions or the PS3 version has the advantage, then I will likely get the PS3 version just to avoid further wear and tear on my 360, given the problems with the system.

*Knocks on wood* Despite all of the RROD 360 problmes, I have not personally had any problems with my 360 thus far and I've had it since December of 2005. Though I do have some methods of keeping it cool, and I usually don't play it (or any other system for that matter) for more than an hour or two at a time, if even that. I also usually go back to the dashboard for a while after an extended period of playing a game to let the fans run so the system can cool down. However, anything that I can do elsewhere instead is preferable as to not push the possibilities of future problems with the 360.

Having said all of that, I really don't like the PS3 controller, and much prefer the 360 one. I was never that big of a fan of the general design that has been used (though slightly modified) in all of the Playstation systems. In regards to the PS3 controller specifically, I really hate the feel of the rear trigger buttons. They just don't feel natural. So, my choice of getting a cross platform game for either PS3 or 360 will be largely influenced on how heavily those buttons would be used.

While Blu-Ray winning the Hi-Def movie format war will surely help the PS3, we have just recently broken into a scenario in which the PS3 is no longer the cheapest BD player on the market. A couple of players (including one by Sony) have recently emerged at the $299 price, and will likely go lower in the not-to-distant future. So, I don't know if Sony's dominance over the video game market this generation is guaranteed. They will likely pick up some steam, but I doubt they will get back to the success that they had with the PS2.

At any rate, like I said, I have all of the systems. So, even if I am somehow proven wrong on all of this and things really do sway in Sony's favor, I already have the PS3 so I'm covered no matter what. But, I really think that Sony dominating the video game market on that level again is a pipe dream at this point.

I don't think that the movie studio's decision changes the minds of hardcore gamers.

I have a 360 and yet I support blu movies.
The Warner news isn't going to make me sell my 360.
Now if I had a Toshiba HD-DVD player, I would be ebaying it right now.

What Sony need to do ASAP is make the PS3 2.0 and provide DTS-MA HD decoding.
An even cheaper PS3 at $299 would kill the 360 faster than Blu being the only HDM format.
I don't know if that is possible right now though.
