Default Amazon High Def Media Sales Shifting Solidly Blu-ray...

Anyone else notice this trend since the Warner/New Line announcements? Only a couple of HD-DVD's are showing up scattered in the rankings a.t.m. It seems that the studios decision is being proven correct, and that perhaps now energy and resources can thankfully be focused on more important tasks such as the overall consumer shift from antiquated SD to quality (and tangible) HD media...

Yeah, I was just going to post on this same topic! 31 (wow!) out of the top 100 best sellers are Blu titles including the top four slots! HD DVD only has 3 of the top 100 slots. That is undeniably decisive!! I think this announcement from Warner / New Line is even more profound than even we here realize just yet, and these numbers are only the first sign of an absolutely huge shift in momentum. Anyone who's been straddling the fence, waiting on a victor before throwing their hat into the HDM ring is likely choosing right now to make their decision. And that's just for those who are really paying attention...when the shift continues and you start seeing fewer and fewer titles available on HD DVD (Lord Of The Rings, anyone?), this is all going to be academic. Personally, I think a neutrality move by Universal is inevitable at this point...and with that, this war will TRULY be over. Essentially is already, but that will seal the deal completely.

um I just want to point out that largely this is do to the bluray BOGO and probably not the warner move.

I say this simple beacsue the numbers were far far in blurays favour, with the HP's taking the top spots, before the announcement and the change has actually been fairly slight.

That said it doesn't really matter, as in a few months it will be like this for blu ALL the time opposed to just during a BOGO sale.

I've been keeping track of the numbers over the last couple of weeks, and the current rate has stayed steady since the bluray BOGOF. It really hasn't changed since Warner switched.

There's going to be quite a surge this week end I tihnk, with many non-neutral HD DVD owners trying to take advantage of the Blu Ray bogo.

Once the Bogo is over, numbers might fall a bit, but they should re-start to increase steadily shortly after. My 2cps.

The warner announce DID have its impact on that.
1. those HP 1-4 was off from top 10 Last Friday, now they are back to top 1-4.
2. Planet Earth BD version was struggling to catch up with hddvd version. Now it is not only beat the HDDVD, but also managed to top rank 25.

I'd say many people are confident to shop blu-ray now.

I'd have to say that based on what I see on eproductwars and other sites, in addition to posts from retailers and associates directly in retail, this news is spreading fast and sales for HD-DVD are quickly heading south...

If you guys see possible defectors on the forums, I suggest linking them to amazon BOGO. Might be the final push over the edge to buying BD.

Start them off with a bunch of cheap BD movies...

I think you meant New Line Cinema instead of Lionsgate.

And in case anyone here is thinking it's coincidence...I have an oceanfront property in Wyoming to sell.

I was wondering why Warner was doing these staggered BOGO's at Amazon since December. If they really wanted to gauge the price sensitivity of both camps, they would have done simultaneous BOGO's to do an apples comparison. Now we know -- they wanted to make sure they have a big BOGO of Blu-rays only during their "announcement week" so there will be no chance any of the HD-DVDs would have a higher ranking than BD's in the Amazon rankings that people can point at and claim HD-DVD is making a "comeback".

i think you are right. I wondered why the staggered BOGOs myself.

Initial optimism was that it was a clearance of hddvd discs, then when they did one for BD too, I figured it was some logistics issue due to which simultaneous were not possible. Now we know =)
