Philips wird sein auf der IFA vorgestelltes Blu-ray Disc Media-Center MCP 9480i nicht wie ursprünglich geplant, bereits im November auf den Markt bringen. Das mit einem Blu-ray Disc-Brenner ausgestattete Media Center auf Basis der Windows Media Center Edition wird jetzt laut Philips voraussichtlich erst im Januar auf den Markt kommen. Der Preis wird bei rund 2500 EUR liegen.

Ein HDTV-Tuner ist nicht eingebaut. Aufgrund der offenen PC-Architektur wäre eine Zertifizierung für Premiere HD nicht denkbar, weswegen Philips das Gerät nur mit einem Kombi-Tuner für analoges Fernsehen und DVB-T ausstattet. HDTV-Downloads aus dem Internet sollen aber ebenso möglich sein wie das Überspielen von Aufnahmen einer HDTV-Kamera über die Firewire-Schnittstelle. Das integrierte Mini-Authoring-System soll auch das Erstellen von Blu-ray Discs ermöglichen, die sich auch auf anderen Blu-ray Disc-Playern abspielen lassen. Die Blu-ray Disc-Player-Engine des Geräts stammt von Cyberlink (PowerDVD).



Voraussichtlich ab März soll auch der Standalone Blu-ray Disc-Player BDP9000 erhältlich sein. Der Verkaufspreis steht hier noch nicht fest. In den USA wird der Blu-ray Disc-Player voraussichtlich noch im Herbst in den Handel kommen. Ausgestattet ist der Player mit einem integrierten 5.1-Decoder, optischen und koaxialen Ausgängen für den Ton sowie einer HDMI-Schnittstelle und einem YUV-Ausgang für das Bild. HDTV-Bilder werden in 1080p ausgegeben und auch herkömmliche DVDs können auf 1080p hochskaliert werden. Veränderungen am Design und der Ausstattung sind bis zur Markteinführung noch möglich.
