Default Futurama Complete Series- slimmer packaging

I came across this while I was browsing Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0753...YTD9RDSQ&psc=1

From the pics I’ve seen, it looks like it’s all eight volumes of the show in three 8-disc DVD cases. Unfortunately it doesn’t include the movies (would’ve been nice if they just threw all four in a 4-disc case).

I feel like this came out of nowhere though lol like when did it come out and why was there no buzz over it?

I can’t find it on any major retailer besides third party sellers on Amazon and eBay.

Don't know about this release but the one that came out in 2013 is cheaper and comes with the movies too.

True. That one’s just the individual volumes and movies put together in one big box. I like this more streamlined one haha.

I believe it's a Canadian set. You can find it cheaper that way.

No blu ray set yet? Vudu had all the seasons and movies for sale available last year in HD except for season 1. FandangoNow has season 1 available in HD.

Then it's an outright lie to call this a "complete series" release. The product description on Amazon even discloses that the set includes the four movies (though the negative reviews state the contrary).

Sure, they can be pedantic and say that the movies are their own thing, but they were really just 16 episodes reconstituted into 4 movies (as evidenced by the production codes and varying scenarists/directors between parts), as opposed to something like The Simpsons Movie, which was produced independently of the television series (and with substantially higher budget/production values).

Oh? Is it legitimate HD or did they butcher it by cropping it to 16:9 like they did with The Simpsons seasons 1-19 and the first half of season 20?

A native HD remaster in 4:3 of the first four production seasons would be amazing though, but I assume that they were produced/finished digitally, and there wouldn't be much legroom for a remaster. I would love to be proven wrong though and see a true remaster of the early years, as there is much room for improvement in the PQ department.

If Seasons 1-4 are in fact limited to SD, then I would be happy to grab a Blu-ray set with seasons 1-4 and the first two movies each on their own BD-50s (which would be great for binge-watching the early years), and they can reuse the existing Blu-rays for the rest of the series.

Not 16:9 it's 4:3, says HDX on the menu. Don't understand why Vudu doesn't have season 1 in HD but FandangoNow does. Would love to complete the collection on Vudu soon.

I picked up the slim Season 1 for Xmas and the discs were pratically crushed and wouldn't play. After several returns, I ended up going for the older PAL set.

I've just seen some clips of the first season in "HD" and it looks bloody awful.

Well, at least they redid the credits that run from the beginning of the episode instead of stretching the image like they typically do with The Simpsons.

Just check out the framing 12 seconds in...

Why, oh, why do they keep destroying the classics?

I wouldn't even mind the upscale if they retained the original aspect ratio.

The picture quality looks like it was worsen. I had to stop because it just looked that bad.

If they're not going to improve, don't change anything!
