They definitely could have had more exciting artwork for this, but it's still pretty classy looking. I'm in.

Really hope we get the Steelbook version down here in Australia too.
Would have been nice though if if got a 4K version but i guess its a way CBS is trying to make us fans buy each season twice!

Now I understand why the show had to change so much, and it is completely inconsistent with existing Trek universe. It is because of rights issue and agreement between CBS All Access and Paramount. CBS All Access could not leverage/use/exploit the likenesses or reference similar technology to the movie universe.

This is an interesting development, curious to know where you found this out? The creators of the show stated that season 2 would begin to line up with the Trek we know, so I'm interested in seeing how this all lines up.

The first season is an attempt at bridging fans of classic trek with fans of movie trek, with a splash of something unprecidented on top. The show couldn't imagine affording any of the actors from the movies anyway but they got the visual effects, energy, and aesthetic very similar while attempting to better capture the heart of original trek.

Like new Star Wars, by design it has to juggle 10x more which means 10x more chance for failure and 10x more chance at disgruntling *some* type of fan. This first season, however, is solid enough with some genuine bright spots and I'm eager to see how the show progresses with the main conflict arcs having been resolved nicely by the end of the first season.

Also it's worth watching the live-recorded "After Trek" after show for each episode, as some of the producers/writers/designers/actors appeared every week and gave the chance to see why many decisions are made.

Watched this show and this show feels like a wannabee Star Trek series.

Just saw the first episode, but it looked pretty good. So happy to see a lot of new tv shows to get a BD release. Let alone nice packaging.
