Default Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Quote:
Apologies if you’ve just gotten over your fear of the dark.

EW has the exclusive first look at Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Nickelodeon’s limited series revival of the popular ’90s horror-fantasy anthology series. Catch your first scary glimpse above.

Premiering in October, the three hourlong episodes will introduce a new group of Midnight Society kids, who gather around the fire to tell the terrifying story of Carnival of Doom (Blindspotting star Rafael Casal plays the carnival’s ringmaster). Unfortunately, the events of the tale soon begin coming to life.

“Are You Afraid of The Dark? was my introduction to the horror genre and made me a fan for life,” series writer BenDavid Grabinski tells EW. “I hope we’re lucky enough to have our series do the same. It’s going to be a fun and scary ride, and I’m honored to introduce the Midnight Society to a whole new generation of kids.”

Watch the teaser above.

Saw the first two episodes at Beyond Fest on Monday night and it's really good. The amount of references across the episodes is a scary movie aficionado's dream come to life.

I've been seeing the ads for this while watching Nick At Nite, and I'm not sure I like the idea of the stories actually coming to life. Seems to stray too far from the original concept.

Thumbs up

I loved this. Cannot wait for new episodes. I'm sad it's only 3 but hopefully it will be renewed for more.

It's kinda weird to see high production values and pop songs in an AYAOTD? production, but I will keep watching. One song sounded like Oasis, and then I found out it was a single Liam Gallagher just released this summer. Mr Tophat reminds me of Boy from Little Monsters. The lead actress would have been a teenage crush, just like JoAnna Garcia was during the original show's run. I recognized the mom in the story (the one that takes their child to the carnival) from the original show.

Watched the first episode this morning and I think this reboot is pretty great. I like the setup and the fact that we get to know the members of The Midnight Society more. The character Graham was familiar to me and then I realized he was Ben Hanscom in Stephen King’s IT. The actor who is 16, looks considerably older now. He was also in Goosebumps 2, which makes his character wearing the graphic t-shirt that read “Watch Scary Movies” even funnier.

I hope people are watching this so it gets good numbers and can continue as a regular series. Or at the very least make the limited series format a yearly thing.

Loved the original series as a kid. It doesn't always hold up as an adult but the nostalgia alone can keep it entertaining. The acting was pretty stiff and amateurish at times, along with set designs and effects that look quite dated today. But it was pretty popular in its day - there were definitely several episodes that scared me as a child. Just watched the first episode posted in this thread and thought it was pretty good. The cinematography was definitely a lot more 'professional' than the old show and had a cinematic feel.

Nickelodeon announced in February that this was renewed for a second season, but I haven't heard anything about it since then. I assume they scrapped the production because of the pandemic?

I hope they bring it back for 2021; it was a great idea of them to revive it and the first season was solid.

I never finished the mini-series, only watched the 1st episode. Walmart has the DVD for $9.96, so I'll probably pick that up and delete the 3 episodes off my DVR.

This season premiere didn't grab me like the last one. The characters aren't as interesting and neither is the story. It's still alright and I'll keep watching but I hope it gets better.

Probably not possible, unless it's SD on blu-ray.
