Default The Thing (2011)

The Thing (2011) from Mill Creek Entertainment

I prefer this cover art to Universal's 2012 release. I wonder if it will have some of the content from the Picture-in-Picture track on Universal's disc.

Quote:
From the producers of Dawn of the Dead comes the chilling prelude to John Carpenter's cult classic film. When paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) travels to an isolated outpost in Antarctica for the expedition of a lifetime, she joins an international team that unearths a remarkable discovery. Their elation quickly turns to fear as they realize that their experiment has freed a mysterious being from its frozen prison. Paranoia spreads like an epidemic as a creature that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish in this spine-tingling thriller.

Starring: Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Eric Christian Olsen
Co-Starring: Ulrich Thomsen, Kristofer Hivju
Director: Matthijs van Heijningen
Writer: Eric Heisserer

UPC: 683904633958
Aspect Ratio: Widescreen (2.40:1)
Subtitles: English
Run Time: 1 Hour 43 Minutes
Region Code: BD Region A

BONUS FEATURES INCLUDE: Feature-length commentary, Deleted/Extended Scenes, Featurettes and Theatrical Trailer!

I prefer this cover art as well. I guess I'll just have to see what all is different about this release to see if it's worth getting.

Prequel, it takes place at the station they investigate in Carpenter’s Thing.

Honestly this wasn't nearly as bad as I heard. It sucks they replaced the practical stuff with CGI (Although the CGI isn't as bad as I feared, still lackluster in parts) but it was entertaining and I loved how well it connected itself back to Carpenter's film.

They say "prequel" but it was more of a remake. A bad CGI remake.

But the movie’s story still takes place before the events of Carpenters film, hence prequel.

The filmmakers did a great job in the way they connected the two films. It wasn't a perfect film, but I enjoyed it.

I don’t mind this film at all.

I wish this would get an extended edit with the original practical effects. Probably never happen.

Unless they replaced all the terrible CGI with practical effects, I’ll pass.

I have the older release but this cover is better looking. I’ve always liked this one, really good prequel to Carpenter’s classic.

It's a decent prequel that often times feels like a redo. It always makes me want to pop in the original right after it. Not sure if that is more from the original being so much better, or just set up from the end of this one. Probably a mixture of both.

But some things feel forced to try and fit in with we saw in the original, esp. the kills. No ****ing way is this the same Norwegian camp we saw in the original film.

Me too! I know this will never happen, but I'd love to get a director's cut with all the practical F/X that were finished inserted back into the film.

This film wasn't as bad as some made it seem. However, they should have kept the practical effects. The ones they should in the making of, looked amazing.

Cover is good, but I got the original release for like $3 and the slip to go along with my SF The Thing.

The 4K would only make the crappy CGI look worse, DVD all the way!
