Never heard of this, but it has Christopher Walken and Mickey Rourke. Anyone have any thoughts on this? |

I really liked it - saw it way back in the early 90s on VHS and have the DVD. It's not a great movie, but it's quirky, often funny, and pretty understated. Christopher Walken steals the movie as an incompetent but arrogant thief - he's got a couple of hilarious little monologues, including one about how the dinosaurs went extinct. Rourke is very understated and says little in this movie, but it's still a good performance.

Now that is interesting. There were rumblings that someone had cracked the lionsgate vault last year and that they may had obtained a few films but no one ever seemed to have information in regards to who it was and the topic sort of faded away. This would seem to indicate Shout Factory were the ones to snag some titles. One has to wonder what if anything else they were able to snag and whether or not this deal has the potential to open the door to future deals/releases.

Homeboy was one of the Carolco titles Lionsgate had from the IVE/Live Entertainment ownership. Supposedly, Lionsgate's rights lapsed and reverted back to StudioCanal (Carolco catalog owner), which explains where Shout licenced it from.
I suspect with the LG logo appearing, that Shout used whatever HD master StudioCanal provided them which was the same one that appeared on the LG 2009 DVD and streaming prints. |

Lionsgate owned the catalog of Canadian company CDFC, and they held worldwide rights to Shivers but only international rights to Rabid (US rights were owned by Sommerville House). Lionsgate's UK operations functioned differently than the US one, so they were more open to licencing out select titles to Arrow in the UK which explains their releases of Shivers, Rabid, and 1996's Bound (a Spelling Films/Paramount title, which Lionsgate got international rights to by the ownership of distributor Summit Entertainment). Lionsgate's rights to Shivers expired, while international rights to Rabid is probably with Sommerville which explains the 101 Films BD of that and Black Christmas. |
