I haven't delved too much into Wellman (I still have a few of his films in my unwatch pile) but "The Ox-Bow Incident" is a fantastic film. Sadly, it's still a relevant film today about mob mentality.

If you like Wyler, Borzage, Hawks, Vidor, Ford and the other Hollywood golden era masters who started in silent films, you should like Wellman as well.

The Ox-Bow Incident is certainly one of his best "later" films.

Unfortunately, the wealth of his filmography is owned by Warner Bros. In the pre-code sound era from 1929-1933, he made 23 films. That is incredibly prolific.

I wish Warners would remaster Heroes for Sale & Wild Boys of the Road, two pre-code masterpieces about the effects of the depression on the working class. They are however available on DVD as part of the Forbidden Hollywood sets, in solid looking prints.

Island in the Sky would be a much-welcome Blu-ray for both Wellman and Duke fans.

That’s probably his best although Wings usually rates highly up there too (have not seen it yet myself). But I also recommend The Public Enemy from the Warner Gangsters blu set.

I have several of the BDs, the only one I was disappointed with was Nothing Sacred which I found rather predictable.

A Star is Born is a legendary film which won Wellman an Oscar has been remade 4 times.

Some Wellman films i highly rate that i would like blu rays of are:
Track Of The Cat, Westward The Women, Heroes For Sale & Wild Boys Of The Road.
I also really enjoyed his pre-code movies:
Frisco Jenny, Midnight Mary, The Hatchet Man, The Star Witness, Night Nurse, Lilly Turner, Other Men's Women, The Purchase Price & The Conquerors.

I agree. Despite its acclaim, I've never been crazy about Nothing Sacred. I've tried it a few times over the years and still it hasn't really clicked for me.

I'd kill for a double feature Blu of Wild Boys & Heroes. Criterion? Are you listening? It seems WAC isn't really interested in pre-code on BD, so CC would be more likely at this point.

I'd also love So Big! and Central Airport. Lilly Turner and So Big! haven't even gotten DVD releases from Warner, unfortunately, even though they're better than most of his other pre-code films that have received releases...

Not sure if it's brand new or not, but The Story of G.I. Joe is streaming in HD on Amazon Prime now.

Also these need to be added to the OP:
