Paramount Black Rain

Here's the review of the only available edition in North America at least Black Rain it got an ok video score but was only encoded with MPEG-2 but it's DTS ES soundtrack was lacking. I would love to see this to get a Paramount Presents presentation.

Yep, the existing BD was acceptable for 2007, but I just watched it for the first time a few weeks ago, and it needs upgrading.

The blacks are completely crushed and the entire transfer has the overly-pixely look of early HD transfers that were intended for use for DVDs, as this one no doubt was.

Ridley Scott seems to be remastering a lot of his catalog in 4K, perhaps he'll do this one, he did special features for it way back when, which he hasn't done for all his titles.

I watched this about a month ago, and felt it still holds up. It looks better than some of the non restored catalogue titles that still come out.

That being said, I would still buy a restored version of this. What would be even more amazing would be the longer cut of this getting a release at some point. The final shootout was severely cut, including the death scene of a certain elderly yakuza character.
