What do I need for True-HD or DTS-HD or Uncompressed PCM - Blu-ray Forum

I have an Onkyo HT-S790 system and I have looked around the net for the answer to this question. Will I be able to receive uncompressed PCM thru this system over ---optical---. I'm pretty sure that Dolby True and DTSHD are thru HDMI only. Could someone please clear this up for me.

In fact, let me take it back a step and simply ask:

What do I need to have to receive LPCM at all, period?

For CDs, there is of course LPCM. For DVDs, there's the fold-down of Dolby Digital 5.1 to 2.0. All this over optical or coax.

For BD, I don't think the format allows the fold-down of the LPCM. For LPCM, you need to use the analog outs or the HDMI.

Correct... Although you can still get output over digital coax/optical when the PCM option is chosen, it's nothing close to the analog outs.

If you're using coax or optical you will be getting lossy 5.1
