Fast & Loose (Will Smith) David Leitch To Direct

Fast & Loose, a drama that has Deadpool 2 and Hobbs & Shaw helmer David Leitch directing and Will Smith starring, has become the subject of a major bidding battle that started yesterday and is playing out today. Script by Jon and Eric Hoeber (Meg, Red) was originally developed by STXfilms, when Leitch was only aboard as producer and there was no star. Now that Leitch is the helmer and Smith is ready to make it his next star vehicle. Sources said most everybody is in on this one, including Warner Bros, Paramount, MGM and Sony, with the streamers now in the mix.

Here’s the logline: After the leader of an upper-echelon criminal organization suffers memory loss from an attack, he reunites with his crew, only to find that things aren’t what he thinks they are. When John Riley (Smith) wakes up in Tijuana after being left for dead with absolutely no memory, he follows a string of clues to uncover his identity discovering he’s been living two different lives: one, as a super-successful crime kingpin, surrounded by beautiful women, expensive toys, and a lavish lifestyle and the other as an undercover CIA agent, but with a puny salary, no family or home life whatsoever, and zero trappings of success. The problem is, he can’t remember which of these two personas is his true identity, and, more importantly, which life he really wants to live. [×]

It's probably a coincidence but I wouldn't be surprised if more upcoming projects with him in it either don't get made or get recast. At least for the time being. If I were directing him, I couldn't hold in my laughter.

Michael Bay no longer directing.

Netflix is back out looking for a director for Fast and Loose, after Michael Bay and Will Smith were unable to bridge creative differences and Bay shook loose of the film yesterday.

Fast and Loose will star Smith as a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories.

They are looking to shoot in October, and Netflix will lock in a new filmmaker to keep things on track.

To be helmed by 'King Ivory' Director John Swab

One of the more sought-after open directing assignments in recent memory looks to have found its director to man the ship, as Deadline is hearing John Swab has been tapped to helm the Netflix thriller Fast and Loose starring Will Smith. Sources also tell Deadline that Smith will reunite with his Bad Boys producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who is boarding the project.

Deadline first reported earlier this summer that Michael Bay had moved off the project due to creative differences instantly making the ODA high priority at Netflix. Given Smith’s busy schedule, the studio had to stick to the production schedule and took meetings with several candidates before landing on Swab, who blew away not only the studio execs but the star of the film as well.
