Default Paramount strikes again: Jack Ryan HD-DVDs not so "special"

It's being reported that Paramount has reannounced the "The Jack Ryan Collection" with a release date of March 25th.

Here's a link:

You probably remember that the original release was recalled when it was discovered that the special features listed on the packaging were not on the discs. In true Paramount style, the editions coming on March 25th will no longer be "Special Collector's Edition" versions. It looks like no new special features will be included on any of the discs. Basically Paramount will be selling the same recalled discs with new packaging.

Obviously, Paramount is dumping these standard versions on consumers before they announce support for Blu-ray.

I love these movies and I can't wait until the Blu-ray versions eventually come out. By then I hope they are true "Special Collector's Edition" versions.

I think that is pushing it a little bit... Its optimistic thinking but still sounds a little lofty to me.

Which part do you think is implausible, Paramount trying to sell off featureless discs or Paramount eventaully supporting Blu-ray?

Maybe they should change the company name to Parasite!

Actually these discs were manufactured long ago when the first error happened. All they did was take those discs and put them in cases that don't list special features because they wouldn't fit on there. It has nothing to do with them announcing support for Blu-Ray.

That's exactly what I said in my original post:

The part about Paramount eventually supporting Blu-ray is a widespread assumption at this point.

Um, have you ever compared the special features on Fox BDs vs their DVD counterpart? True Paramount style is usually porting over all dvd features on catalog titles and only charging a list price of $29.99.

[sarcasm]Psh! Man on Fire has tons of features like... the trailer... and... other trailers... what all did the DVD have? Hmmm?! Tell me that Mr. Smarty Pants. Some... and by some I mean a lot of featurettes, some audio commentaries, some making of stuff, all the previews and TV spots, interviews... I'd say that's on par with the features on the Blu-Ray and that's why HighDefDigest is so biased! Because the Blu-Ray is just as good as the 2 disc DVD set![/sarcasm]

But seriously, I don't think the Man on Fire thing had as much to do with disc space as it did with just not seeing a point to adding uber SD features when there's already a 2 disc set out there. Where as these Jack Ryan movies were marketed as the Special Collector's Editions and then they couldn't fit the features on there (known fact, since they do have, or should have, TrueHD on them) so they just were left off.

Actually I was referring to their "style" of screwing consumers.

Remember how they abandoned Blu-ray and stopped all Blu-ray editions IMMEDIATELY? They even recalled new Blu-ray discs that were already in the hands of retailers such as "Blades of Glory."

I have to admit though, that NOT having "Blades of Glory" on Blu-ray is a trully good thing.

In contrast, even though Warner has dumped HD-DVD, they are still honoring their commitments to release HD-DVDs through May.

The Jack Ryan discs will probably be the same, 5 years old masters once they come to Blu... when are they going to make correct HD masters for this series ?

They made brand new HD masters for the box set back in 2004. Have you seen these masters and how do you know they're not correct?
