Default The Sandman (Netflix)

Dream Dangerously. Enter the world of THE SANDMAN on August 5, only on Netflix.

Based on the beloved award-winning DC comic series written by Neil Gaiman, THE SANDMAN is a rich, character-driven blend of myth and dark fantasy woven together over the course of ten epic chapters following Dream’s many adventures. Developed and executive produced by Gaiman, showrunner Allan Heinberg, and David S. Goyer.

How come many of the clips I've seen look vertically stretched? Is this a choice?

Anyway, started reading the comic because of this so looking forward to it!

The actor is definitely tall and angular but it does look like they're stretching/enhancing it for silhouette shots.

Looks like a lot of it is vertically stretched. If you look at any of the footage from the clips or featurettes. Must be an artistic choice.

Netflix's The Sandman - Exclusive "Death" Clip (2022) Tom Sturridge, Kirby Howell-Baptiste - YouTube
I didn't believe it was artistic choice until this:

I hope it's good. Though when they don't have advanced reviews and have the press embargo set to release date...it's usually a bad sign??

I've heard good word from some fans who saw the first episode or two from some online premiere thing. And some of the interviewers who've seen the series really seemed to dig it.

I think it's just the usual Netflix lack of promotion. It seems most of the promotion they've done (all the Gaiman interviews, Comic Con) is largely just to reassure the built-in fans that they aren't messing it up. I think they're hoping for some word of mouth type buzz. I mean they put a lot of money into it.

I’ve watched the first two episodes and love it. I want to binge it but also want let it sink in some.

I think I’ll do two a night. I’ve read the comics so I can’t really have someone spoil all of it. With that I can take a little more time with it.

But these two have been everything I’d hoped for and even a little more.

Forgot that Netflix drops it all at once! Three in. Every bit as good as I dared to hope for. Torn between binging and making it last. Oh, what the heck, I can always watch it again...and again. So happy and excited. (Matthew is a pisser....)

YESS!!! I am big fan of Neil Gaiman and have read Sandman (1,993 pages) + overture spin off/sequel (a beautifully illustrated graphic novel) twice. I saw the first episode, and I am glad to say it has the right tone as the graphic novel. The production and direction are great. My main question is:

Why is this series not getting all the hype???

If the Netflix series follows the graphic novel closely enough, this series should be better than Stranger Things (in my opinion, I am hugely biased).

As a fan of the Vertigo series, I’m extremely happy with this adaptation.

But as per usual, Netflix dropped the ball on the promotion of this. I’d be super surprised if they didn’t green light a second season.

If Warner Bros is behind this production, will it be released perhaps on Blu-ray?

I absolutely loved the adaptation, I have already rewatched a couple episodes... in regards to the aspect ratio, while it was noticeable, I did not find it distracting at all to be honest...
