Huh. I never heard of this before. Starring Joe Pilato and Tom Savini?? Jeez. Plot summary sounds like it's in that weird meta arena like One Cut of the Dead or something?

I blind bought it last year, and liked it a lot. It's a meta horror film that is pretty effective, but it is VERY low budget. Great for what it is.

Oh my god I can't watch movies that didn't cost at least $500,000 to make. Thanks for bringing this up so I can scratch it off my interest list.

Haha. It's a good movie, but it lacks polish. I just was tempering expectations in case they didn't know anything about the film.

It made the rounds on the festival circuit around 1980, but it never got a theatrical release, never aired on TV, and didn't get its first home video release until 2005. Barely anyone had heard of it until the Synapse DVD, and even then...

Very much agree. Also, if you see the title 'Effects', notice Tom Savini's name attached, and see a picture start to form in your head, really keep your expectations in check. It's not that kind of a movie. But it is a terrific thriller, rough edges and all, and it's a movie that's even better the second time through.

Exactly, money is polish so it's good to know to avoid.

Wow. Genuinely shocked to see this getting a 4K…I’ve seen the film and liked it overall and depending on price and reviews I’d definitely pick it up.

It’s likely been mentioned in other threads, but the slip is now gone.

Watched my copy last night. Still a great movie. The 4K looks great, dark scenes are still pretty weak (no fault of the release), but overall, it's nice to own the definitive release of this overlooked film!

Watching this movie was like watching Tom Savini walk directly out from the set of Dawn of the Dead and onto this movie set! It looked like he was having lots of fun during the making of this movie.

I think they did an excellent job of transferring this to 4K for the UHD Blu-ray release. However, I think the HDR was way overly too exaggerated! Again just another transfer where it looks like some kid took the contrast knob and turned it up all the way.

Threw my copy in on Sunday night and loved it. I was surprised how good it looked. Don't know how the previous release looked but I was honestly pretty shocked.

It's basically a bunch of guys trying to make a movie and using 16mm film to capture it on...in true life and in the movie.

It's low budget and not fully polished out in some areas. At one point I was confused as to what was going on in the movie which impacted the end of it for me. I also thought the HDR was a bit on the too hot side.

But, it's interesting to watch because of Tom Savini. And the rest of the movie is like looking at a time capsule.

It's up to you. If your not sure, try to get the earlier Blu-ray release for probably much less and see if you like it or not before upgrading to the UHD.
