Default I have $450

Tell me which HTIB i should buy. I have been looking at these two, but i cannot make up my mind.
http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/produ...2#availability
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....#productdetail

I hear the Onkyo doesnt decode HDMI sound, which I really am not 100% sure I understand that, but i think that means if i hook my PS3 up to it via HDMI, then it wont sound as good as it should.

I have $450, a PS3 with 2 HDMI cables, one to go to a HTIB, and one to go from the HTIB to the tv (a Sony Bravia 32 inch)

I would just like to play my games and BD's with the best quality for the best price.

HELP ME PLEASE!!

I'll get it out of the way for everyone else. You shouldn't get an HTIB. You can do better than Sony audio products.

There got that out of the way.

Of your two choices, the Sony will decode HDMI audio while the Onkyo will only passthrough thus requiring an optical cord resulting in 2.1pcm.

Therefore go sony.

Go with the Sony, they should be sufficient.

But do note, speakers from CE manufacturers are almost never as good as ones from dedicated speaker manufacturers.

sony recievers & speakers suck.

'doesnt decode HDMI sound' mean that it is passthrough, yes it is dumb, there is no point of even having a HDMI port on the reciver then.
BUT I don't see where it say passthruoght or the it does not pass sound (Onkyo) I checked Crutchfield & it says that it has HDMI 1.3a

edit:

Ok I finaly found it IT IS PASSTHROUGH, so pass on this. Best to save up some more money

sony makes a few good receivers, but they make a lot of crap..... most companies of their size, manufacturing overseas do.....

STRDA5300ES is a decent receiver.

No, the Onkyo 800 would work fine. There is no reason not to get it. It has HDMI inputs, and should output 1080P to your TV if it supports it. It won't decode the hi-def formats, but it can playback PCM audio, this is all you will need with the PS3. Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA have to be internally decoded by the PS3 and sent via PCM to the receiver.

I know is is more than what you are looking to spend, but then you won't have to upgrade immediately when you get out of college. Its an Onkyo 7.1 and it's not a pass-through.

Onkyo 7.1 HTIB

They are a good site. I have made purchases from them before. They are an authorized dealer, and they price match. It would be best to talk to a rep over the phone, they might make the deal better for you.

I just purchased the following. I got the Sony Visa so I will receive a $100 credit after a couple of weeks. It also has 12 months interest free financing. It decodes DD5.1 and DTS, PLII over HDMI so only 1 cable is needed:

I'd go with the Sony HTIB. Sony and Panasonic HTIB sound pretty good.

hopefully that last part works out for you. go for engineering. they are in high demand.

i'd suggest going online, finding the onkyo tx-sr605 that we keep talking about on here should be under $400 most places then get some simple front channels. i have jbl balboa series floorstandings and center channel. you can get the floor standings for about $60 each when they're on sale at frys, then i got the center for $50 from buy.com. then i'd suggest slowly building a good system that will last you a long time. a guy i work with buys 1 or 2 new speakers each year when we get our bonuses $5K+ so he has a really nice set up.

I'm tickled with my HT-S894 Onkyo system which I got from Accessories4Less for $399.00 plus $50.00 shipping. Even came with one HDMI cable. It took me quite a while to tweak it but I love it! Comes with upconverting DVD player up to 1080i. Whatever you get, read the threads on these forums, they explain things alot better than the manuals!!

If your looking at CC, know that they have interest free payment options. They have different programs with differnet lengths of time to pay back depending on the amount your buying. Under $500.00 they give you 3 months. Between $500 to $1000 you can have a year. Look at your options, but interest free is pretty good and you can make payments and keep some of that $450.

Just a suggestion

Their video is outstanding, their audio is the epitome of mediocrity... used to have a yamaha amp driving a set of sony speakers, I replaced my sony speakers with a nice set of Polk RTi12s... it was like hearing my stereo for the first time! Since then, I replaced the yamaha with an Onkyo 705... OMG!

If you have to get one now go for the onkyo. You should be able to upgrade the speakers and sub in the future.
