Hey all,
I decided to Pull out my Knight Rider Blu-ray set again last night and start going through the show. I purchased my Box set about a year ago, at my local Walmart. My box set was put together by Mill Creek. Recently I've noticed talk on here about Several editions of Knight rider on Blu-ray. The box set I have, another one that's just region B /2, and the Turbine release. When checking Amazon, the only one that seems to be available for North America, is the set I already own. There isn't anything wrong with it, and it's certainly more stable than the Universal DVD sets that I replaced with this Blu-ray box set. I was just curious about all the editions and why I'm only now seeing the one I already have as the main one for North America. The other question I have is, is there going to be a 4K release? I'm perfectly fine with standard Blu-ray, so this was simply asked out of curiosity. Since it's an old show, I'm really not expecting quality to get much better than the Blu-rays I have. I was just thinking HDR, might give it a new touch when it comes to clarity. Thanks again for any feedback. |

User @MLAM has written two fantastic posts in the German section of the forum, that should answer most of your questions:

The Turbine complete collection set of Knight Rider is so amazingly beautiful. It's the definitive version and the one to seek out. Yes, it's pricey and involves getting over some initial sticker shock to make the purchase. But, it's worth every single penny!

Thanks, I'll read up on those links, as far as trying to get the turbine edition, I'd rather wait to see if there will be a 4K release, since I have a working blu-ray copy right now.
OK, finished reading the two threads above. I have the Mill Creek edition as it's the first one I saw when wanting to replace my damaged DVDs. According to the Posts, there is no certainty if a 4K release will be done, but there is no mention of how to obtain the Turbine edition either. Earlier this year, I purchased the series through VUDU as well because I wanted a digital copy of the show, and was in the process of moving, and didn't have access to my physical media. So, here are my take aways after reading the above articles: 1. I don't use subtitles (unless it's automatic for movies with dialog in another language) (such as parts of Star Wars, etc.) 2. Even though I was alive when the show was airing, I never saw the original series on TV, so I would have no reference personally to what's missing, and what's not. With that said any version I would have seen today without seeing the original show on TV, would all be about the same to me. I'll keep an eye out for the Turbine set, however as mentioned I just wanted a copy that didn't freeze / skip like the DVDs did. At least I have that part now. Thanks for the info. I originally watched Knight rider for the first time, when it was on Netflix quite a few years ago. Then I bought the DVDs that were put out by Universal, when Netflix lost the rights to the show. So how does the current set I have compare to those other two releases that I've seen, and had access to? The other thing I mentioned is, I purchased the series through VUDU as well to have a digital version as well for portability. I love physical media but also in the case of TV shows, if I can buy a good digital copy to cut down on physical storage space for discs, I'm also willing to do that. |

As much as I'd love some sweet Universal classic TV in 4K, I can't see it happening. The cost is just too much and studios aren't really interested in going down that route, except with very noteworthy, recent content. Some years ago, Sony went to the trouble of redoing the entire run of The Shield in widescreen 4K and only had it very briefly available on their own short-lived 4K streaming service, with no indications that they plan release it anywhere else in any format beyond regular HD widescreen streaming or download. They also did the same with Breaking Bad and that disappeared quickly too.

Hi all,
I don't know how I missed this post. Thanks to @Cap.T for the linking of my posts. I was originally going to quote a few posts but thought it would be easier to do one post and try to summarise. @MacinMan, we all hope that Knight Rider will be newly scanned from the original negatives, fully restored and colour graded in HDR, though sadly I think it is very unlikely it'll happen as even plenty of films don't have 4K releases, let alone a TV series. If resellers are selling the Turbine set in the US, you'll only be paying more, I live in the UK myself and bought from Turbine directly myself and it was totally hassle free. Here is a direct link to their site and the Knight Rider set https://turbine-shop.de/detail/index/sArticle/32647 Any versions that were/are on streaming platforms are the same off the shelf masters that Universal have supplied to everyone, even Turbine included. The key difference is, Turbine have regraded the colours and contrast a lot and every episode is uncut. I appreciate you may or may not notice any cuts but on the Mill Creek set, one 2 hour episode is presented in it's edited 2 part format so it's missing almost 10 minutes of footage. Any missing songs are put back in, one episode in Season 3 "Dead of Knight" is really obvious and another episode in Season 2 "White-Line Warriors" is replaced, the original is crucial to the story line. In addition to what's been said, Turbine have restored the audio as well, it sounds so much better compared to the Mill Creek set it's unbelievable. I've been able to compare both sets back to back and have just earlier today posted a very detailed comparison of them both and a few weeks back I posted a review on the Turbine set. Here's direct links to my detailed posts, Part 1 and 2 you've already read, so please check out Part 3 and 4 when you get a chance. Part 1 - Technical Background about HD Masters Part 2 - Blu-Ray Releases Spec Comparisons Part 3 - Turbine Knight Rider 40th Anniversary Blu-Ray Review Part 4 - Turbine Knight Rider 40th Anniversary vs Mill Creek Entertainment Detailed Comparison and Analysis Hope this helps ![]() Last edited by MLAM; 03-24-2023 at 11:02 PM.
