Default best onkyo/sony combo

love my big screen! BUT analog and digital sources leave alot to be desired.
i was thinking of matching an onkyo 875 (upconverts video sources to 1080P) with a sony 60 a3000 (does not have v.2.5 processing like xbr4/5 to upconvert) or a sony 52xbr4 (currently have sony 60" and hard to think smaller) with an onkyo 605 ?????????

which would do better job of upconverting video?

Onkyo 875 has the Reon-HQV scaler for upconverting. It will definitely do a better job.

Default sony xbr4/5 video upconverting

i saw where one of sony's receivers (2100) uses the faroudja processor. my oppo 981hd uses this one and beats the ps3 hands down for upconverting reg. dvd. does anyone know if the sony tv's (xbr4/5) use this processor? or if the reon hqv is better than the faroudja?

The Reon is a better processor than the Faroudja. With that said I think the PS3 with the latest firmware is much better than the Faroudja and right on par with the Reon based players I have owned (XA-2).
