Which player/receiver/set of speakers do you have? Have you tried other movies? Have you tried another player?

I don't understand why everyone gets so worked up about THX. I bet there is not one person here that has a full THX certified setup.

THX is not a sound format, it's a certification

You have it hooked up via optical, and therefore are only getting stereo

You need an HDMI capable reciever, or you need to hook up via analog outs if your player has them for full PCM. Otherwise, you need to select a dolby digital 5.1 track

It's all in your manual

Ok, you need to change the settings on your PS3 to send the audio out to your receiver via bitstream, not PCM unless your receiver has HDMI inputs. If your receiver doesn't have HDMI ability then in the menu of the movie play the DD5.1 audio.

They lied. Does the receiver not have an HDMI out? HDMI passes uncompressed audio/video.

Can you post a link to the system you bought? Might help us be more help to you.

This is correct, it's a mastering certification on media and spec certification on harware.

Actually, it is possible if you're using the Dolby Digital track that the DVD would sound better. Maybe THX did some tweaking to it that's not on the Blu-Ray or something. But the PCM should be the right way to listen to it.

I bet you don't meet all the requirements. There is a ton of stuff that are required. Hell even most movie theaters can't do it.

According to the link your receiver also has an HDMI output: plug the player into the receiver and the receiver's HDMI output into the TV's HDMI input.

you run an hdmi from the ps3 to the reciever and then a second hdmi from the reciever to the television. if you continue to use optical just change the setting on the ps3 to bitstream as pcm with optical will only get you 2.1 .

on a side note i heard that sometimes the basic dolby digital 5.1 soundtracks on dvd were artificially enhanced so they would produce more bass. this does not happen on the blu-ray dd 5.1. the uncompressed pcm tracks are supposed to blow everything out of the water!

You have one HDMI input and one HDMI output on your receiver (according to the specs in the link). PS3 HDMI output--->Receiver HDMI input, then Receiver HDMI output--->TV HDMI input.
