I received my UHD today and it's wonderful. As always, this is just a quick look but I imagine this is as close to flawless as possible PQ-wise, which is a miracle as the master was made by a notorious party that usually guarantee subpar work, Hiventy. The 4K master was commissioned in 2024 by MK2 from the OCN with color supervision by Guillaume Schiffman. Color grading was done by the person who did the Three Colors trilogy in 4K. Thankfully, no one messed with the grain, the opticals seem untouched and colors are appropriately rich with no raised blacks and mushy greys. This is remarkable as only a couple of months ago, Godard's Alphaville got grain managed throughout and The Mother and the ***** suffered from poor grading as just mentioned.
The UHD is a BD-66 with the film having "only" 49 GB in total, however encoding is by LSP and I can't see any issues. Grain resolves very beautifully in opticals and OCN shots. Dolby Vision MEL is included. All of this bodes well for the Truffaut set Carlotta released on the same day. I have this ordered as well and should've received it by now but unfortunately it's not yet on the way. Here's BDInfo and some screenshots. Code:

![]() Edit: I added a couple more saturation steps. Are these tonemapped? I ask because sometimes the process can add imperceptible color and isn't representative of the true image. ![]() Last edited by ko8ebryant24; 10-17-2024 at 02:58 PM. |

Unfortunately, it seems to yield the same result. However, given that the presentation doesn't appear to lack in grain retention, it's forgivable. With those Kino and Paramount fake grayscales, there’s a lot left to improve upon, so in those encodes it feels like wasted bits that could be put towards improving in other areas.
