I'm holding my horses until BD200/100GB are supported. I guess 500$ threshold can be reached by refuting DVD support, no?

Awesome! 50% off the price and we are 2 weeks after Blu-ray was released!

Soon they will pass the $300 border!

I am waiting for $500 as well. Though I wouldn't mind a drop to $300 either.

This comes as a big surprise to me. I didn't even know this drive was on the horizon. A month ago I would have snapped one up. Now I have Christmas shopping to think about ... and other expenses coming up. The torture!

Has anyone tested dual layer media on this drive yet? Saw it at Fry's the other day and it only mentions single layer media.

The website does not mention DL support, but the downloadable spec sheet (ZIP'd PDF) does say it can do 1X BD-R DL and BD-RE DL.

I wonder if the shipping firmware can do it though.

What was the price at Fry's?

Thanks for the specs.

Price was somewhere in the mid $500s. Can't remember the exact price.

I may go pick it up today but they only had one on the shelf at my local Fry's. I noticed that they were sold out of the Sony BD drive that I've seen earlier too.

Seems a little bit strange that so far (I mean more than week alredy gone) no one has yet published some decent review about this drive somewhere in WWW. Many are really wwitng to see burning performances on many different brands of media both 1x and 2x !

Ok, there seems to be out a review of this device !

To sum it all up, this is what we would say: "The Lite-On LH-2B1S is overall a very good choice of a CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive".
Based on our results and experiences with the Lite-On LH-2B1S we would like to give it our SAFE BUY award.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Belonging to the first generation of Blu-ray writers, the device seems to operate very well and also the write quality on the supported media types is very good.

The Lite-On LH-2B1S should be one of the first Blu-Ray drives that are equipped with a Serial-ATA interface.

The 12x writing speed on DVD±R media is also a feature that is most welcome.
While CD Freaks didn't test the LH-2B1S with dual layer BD-R media, it should be noted that the drive's reading and writing speed is limited to only 1x. This means it will take nearly 3 hours to write an entire 50GB disc. Hopefully Lite-On can increase this to 2x when they boost the drive's single layer BD-R writing speed to 4x.

Please tell me that is a typo. If it can't read DL discs at 1.5X or 2X it's unsuitable for playing DL movies.
