All 3 films were the base for the Fox Kids / Saban Digimon The Movie they did in 2000.

So, it's all three films with the OG JP dubs, the 2000s Saban The Movie dubs, and a new series of dubs with the OG cast for all three films.

Yeah I know they were part of the US released movie back in the day. I was curious if that cut of the movie was included.

I'm sure this set only having 1-3 is to keep it contained to the movies that made up Digimon: The Movie, but I still think it's a bit weird to leave off the remaning DA02 movie in the set that has the other 3 from DA and DA02. Hopefully that means they'll at least go to Frontier to include movies 4-7... but since 5-7 are unconncted, it just feels a bit weird to not have the movies for the connected seasons together.

But I'm glad we're getting them nonetheless.

I am ordering this the moment the Amazon listing goes live for preorders. I can't believe this is actually happening. Never thought we'd get the original movies released here, let alone dubbed and on Blu-ray to boot. This is just so awesome. But yeah it's a shame the fourth movie isn't included. I get it but still sad to see it excluded. Just means I have to wait until a hopeful Movie Collection 2. It will be nice to eventually complete my original Digimon Adventure anime collection.

Is there a reason for a new dub if they already have the old one included? It seems unnecessary.

The "old one" you speak of is the 2000 US film "Digimon: The Movie", which is basically a marathon/adaptation of the first 3 Japanese Digimon short films spliced together into one film, but with over 30-40 minutes of footage cut due to Fox not wanting a 2-hour runtime for an animated film... oh and they added that cringy Angela Anaconda short at the beginning of the film. And Saban had to change A LOT of stuff for this release to satisfy S&P and basically market to American audiences.
This Blu-ray has the first 3 Digimon short films in their uncut, uncensored versions as they were shown in Japan, with both the original Japanese audio and all-new English dubs for each short that are more true to the Japanese scripts.
The 2000 US version is included as a bonus, but with the Angela Anaconda skit removed and banished back to Canada where it belongs. And none of the music has been changed.

The new dub is for the individual 3 films in the set. There was only ever a dub for the chopped up/combined release we got in the States that was a mash up of these three movies. This set includes the first three movies uncut with dubs for the first time and the original dub with the "Digimon: The Movie" edit released by Fox.

Anyone know exactly what the extras are for this? I see people have been getting their copies shipped early and plenty have them in hand.

So no "Kids in America" music video?? Kinda disappointing, but still may have to pick this one up just for the new dubs.

The encoding on these is kind of a joke honestly. I freaking knew putting three hours/four movies, with multiple audio options and extras wouldn't be that great on just one disc. But whoever encoded this disc screwed up imo. The bitrate on this is so erratic, and while it's not artifact city here. There are some moements with some atrocious microblocking, banding, and other artifacts with how low the bitrate dips and holds at times. I mean it's just crazy how encoders think they need to push the bitrate so high at times when it doesn't need to jump into the mid to high 30s if it's gonna lead to moments that sit at sub 10mbps for scenes at a time. Even with the runtime and other content on here they could've kept it stable in the mid 20mbps range easy.

By far the third uncut film suffered the most in regards to glaring compression artifacts. Some really ugly artifact appear during the intermission between parts 1 and 2 of Hurricane Touchdown. But there's one sequence in particular that has some of the worst banding I've seen in awhile. Also why the heck did they decide to make the three uncut films one single file?

I swear I hate how people are so defensive of boutique labels that stuff like this just gets excused because they're a smaller label. Yes they're small in regards to bigger companies, but with everything on here this should've been a two disc set. There's absolutely no reason everything needed to be shoved onto one disc. Nor is there any excuse for the awful artifacts present on this disc at times. The bitrate shouldn't be dropping into dvd levels for so freaking long, a problem which wouldn't have been an issue if they did a 2 disc set as it should've been.

I've been looking forward to this film finally getting a proper and official release, to be honest it will suffice. But it's not the best it could be and I feel they skimped in the weirdest of ways. For one the new dubs are great for everyone they were able to get back, but the person handling the mixing and sound design for the dubs wasn't that great as they're honestly pretty poor in that regard. Sure some of that has to do with what they were stuck with in regards to the lackluster sound mixes of the Japanese originals, but even their mixing of the dialogue was better.

But with the American cut I appreciate them reconstructing the film and leaving out that God awful Angela anaconda opening, just truly atrocious honestly. As they did a pretty solid job removing burnt in subs and adding US footage which was used from a film print. I know they scanned a trailer for the US version, but it was sadly left off the disc for some reason. Not even a port of the version from the DVD. Heck none of the home video art or posters were included in the gallery either But at least we got the recap video. Honestly, a bonus I really would've like considering how many were brought back for the dubs would be a commentary for the US cut.

Considering what I've heard and how much effort they put into this and previous Digimon releases, I figured this would've been a slam dunk for Discotek, but they honestly dropped the ball by cheaping out with cramming it all onto one disc. Even if they truly had to use one disc, the person encoding could've done a much better job than what is on display here.

I didn't think it was all that bad, I just attributed it to age and medium.

I've said many times, probably to the point of it being annoying, that they should've released all 4 Digimon Adventure movies on Collection 1 instead of having a movie for the two connected seasons out of place on a disc with Digimon movies for the unconnected seasons. Ideally it'd have been 1-4 on disc 1 and Digimon: The Movie by itself. But seems like they just focused on Digimon: The Movie and the 3 uncut counterparts judging by how they list them on the menu as "original uncut" and "combined American movie."

I know they got a ton of hate for cutting them to go into Digimon: The Movie but now having seen the originals, I think it actually flows a bit better. Yes, the combined movie feels rushed in some places and they had to add in story to connect them all... but the originals drag on, and I can see why they remove the completely unnecessary scene of Tai and Kari's dad coming home drunk in Digimon Adventure, and they remove the whole dumb storyline with the older kids in Hurricane Touchdown but I think the addition of saying Diaboromon infected Cocomon actually helps because I don't remember them explaining why he just suddenly becomes bad.
