So, after much pushing, my parents finally bought a 52" Sony Bravia, which is supposed to be here on wednesday. They can't wait for me to hook up my PS3 and watch some Blu's, which is awesome. However, they will need their own Blu-Ray player soon, because I love mine too much to let them keep it. So, I suggested that they get another PS3, because it is the most stable, can play my games when i feel like playing them in the den, and can be updated to the newest versions, like 2.0.
So, basically, I'm stuck between a few choices: 1. Get the 40GB PS3 now. Instant gratification FTW!! Pros - They get to watch movies now, and don't have to wait. Cons - A price drop later would kind of be a swift kick to the nuts. They have to actually use the PS3 controller, or maybe the blue tooth one, which is quite hard to use for those that don't really know how to even hold a Sixaxis. Not the easiest to use... 2. Don't get the 40GB - instead, wait a few months, see if any other SKU/price drops occur. Pros - Still getting the great system, at a cheaper price, or with more storage. I could swap HDD's with mine. Saving money will make the parents happy. Cons - The same PS3 controller problem as #1. 3. Skip the PS3 alltogether - wait until late this year and (if its going to be the last release) get a 2.0 dedicated player. Pros - A dedicated player looks more "savvy" in the room, a gaming console might look kind of silly. Easier to use than a PS3. The remote can most likely be linked to whichever one they use as the "master" remote. Cons - Price? New players are often expensive, correct? And of course, the long wait, going all that time without Blu-Ray goodness (except for the few times I bring my PS3 out to the den for maybe a few days). So far, I think I'm leaning towards option 2 or 3, probably three. It needs to be easy to use, and at a good price. What do you all think? |

You could always wait until the next PS3 model comes out (120gb/160gb) if it comes out.
Than ask if your parents will buy you the new PS3 in exchange for giving them yours. You never know, it might work. |

It is possbile to integrate the PS3 blu-tooth into a master remote via a USB dongle. I think PS3 power-on/off is the only thing you lose. If you want to do that (search the forums on how) then you could get a PS3 and I think from your description your answer is then #1. |

Option 1 + a BD remote for the PS3. Get the 40 GB since I hear it is quieter and uses less power.

Looks like I am in the minority here, but I think a stand alone player is better for the older folks! I have a first gen sony bluray/ and a ps3
