Wattage?

OK, I'm looking to upgrade my receiver. The one I'm wanting puts out 105 watts per channel. My existing surround sound system has max capability of 100 watts per channel. I can do the math but is it absolutely necessary to replace my speakers if I went this route? Thanx much.

Not absolutely necessary. You will probably never have a problem with the speakers. In the unlikely event that you do blow one, then you will just have to get some new ones and that is always fun

you're more likely to damage speakers by under-powering them rather than over-powering them (unless you're TRYING to destroy them of course)

It's called "clipping"

yep, watch out to match the amp to the speakers... Driving a 4 ohm speaker with a 8 ohm amp will damage the amp when used at high levels. Check your specs...

Not nessesary - in order to get a 3dB gain you must double your amp power (in other words you would have to move to a 200 watt amp to gain 3db's). The point is mute - your fine. Unless your speakers are driven at some incredibally low impedence level.
