As revered as the original surround mix is (won the Grammy that year for Surround Album), the Atmos mix (in my opinion) is better. I'm thrilled to be able to get it on Blu-ray, shame Universal didn't think this worthy of a regular retail release.

The Atmos mix has more separate and discrete elements when I listen, the surround mix in retrospect has more "main" material mixed through all channels like lead vocals. When you listen to the isolated surrounds for Your Latest Trick from the 5.1 mix compared to the isolated summed surrounds/heights from the Atmos mix, it's quite a difference.

Here is around 30 seconds of each from around 4m17s where Mark's about to sing "I don't know how it happened" before the final refrain, the 5.1 is louder so don't blow your ears off transitioning. And that's after a +5dB boost to the Atmos and a -5dB to the surround lol.

Such a fantastic friggin' album. This was one of the first CD's I bought when I got my first CD player in 1986. I always think of Brothers in Arms as the best Pink Floyd album that Pink Floyd didn't make. "Ride Across the River" really takes me back; wow.

That's correct, a bit short-sighted by Universal in my opinion.

I wish Dire Straits would release proper deluxe editions of their albums including demos, rehearsals and more live shows.

I think the new Brothers in Arms anniversary CD set is pretty lacklustre only including a live show and some liner notes, especially when compared to the Ultravox or The Police deluxe boxsets.

I would kill for a Making Movies set including a November/December 1980 concert with the funky versions of Single Handed Sailor and In The Gallery.

This blu-ray set is going to be awesome, I'm especially looking forward to the instrumental version and the shorter Vinyl versions as a curiosity.

Finally received a shipping soon notice for this.
Been waiting for that to happen.

Looking forward to a good LOUD listen to see how it compares to the SACD version that I currently listen to. See if the wife & neighbors can tell the difference.

I'm still waiting on a good chance to listen to this through, household has been busy lately. My father passed unexpectedly last month just ten days before my brother's wedding. This album has massive memories of being younger and listening to this cranked in his Oldsmobile driving around Grand Cayman on the week-ends. Listening to this is hugely emotional right now. I wish I could have one more day with him.

I managed a listen to The Man's Too Big and felt like the low end was missing, then I listened to my CD and also the two stereo version on the BD and they're both the same, then I listened to the 5.1 mix and boom...bass was back! I mean the thunderous thump that occurs just after the guitar chords in the chorus, it really is impactful in the 5.1 mix but appears it was never that way in the original mix...shows how much the 5.1 mix had become the only version for me.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the disc, the fidelity was bang on as usual with pretty much every version of this album I've heard, but I haven't listened enough to judge the Atmos mix yet.

I wonder how good this sounds considering it was all recorded digitally at 16/44.1. The SACD sounds good considering this.

Now if UMG could follow this with more albums that would be great. There's so many albums that desperately need a high res update, but UMG hasn't touched.
