I spent some time thinking about movie "moments"...occurences during a movie that made the movie itself special...
![]() The movie Intersection with Richard Gere, Sharon Stone, and Lolita(mmm) Davidovich. Theres a moment in this movie where Richard Gere hits the crossroads of his life. He is holding a letter that he should but shouldn't mail, tapping it on his forehead, pacing back and forth, when he gets a "sign" in the form of a a beautiful Red headed girl...the mood is right and the weather is on the verge of a storm, but Gere has an epifinay and so do we as the movie watcher. The letter is never mailed but winds up being very symbolic in a very climatic finish. Watch this movie if you haven't seen it, there is a really good lesson on how we struggle with different aspects of our lives and relationships we build. Well, usually the moments I like are twists or surprises (Fight Club, Memento, Ocean's 11). However some movies had great moments that are just little, but are great. Pick almost any scene in Casino Royale and it's got a great moment in it, especially the final scene of the movie.

Ooh ooh, just remembered another all time fave moment, when Hercules and his little pal disturb Talos in Jason and the Argonauts and Talos turns his head to look at them and you hear his giant bronze body make that sound...Friggin' awesome moment.

in Almost Famous (out now on Blu-ray in the UK - no its not that good quality, sound sucks) (movie is awesome tho) - When Penny Lane is "introduced" to Russel Hammond and Joni Mitchell's River is playing in the background.... breaks my heart.
Same movie, by the end --- Penny Lane's reaction to a shocking truth about something.. (its a spoiler I wont tell) The Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King - When Theoden's army arrives by the White city to defend it from Sauran's attack.... Same movie, a bit before: When Faramir, the lesser-loved son of the Steward of Gondor does a suicide charge on the evil forces to the sound of Pippin singing.... OUCH I'm such a softie. Tough one, cannot name a fave right now, but:
When you finally figure out who Louis Cipher is in Angel Heart.... The fight scene in They Live and the kicks ass/chew bubblegum line... The chest-burst scene in the Alien... The chariot race in Ben Hur... Eh, I gotta stop, just realized I could go on and on and on..... |

My favorite movie moment ever is in "National Lampoon's Animal House", where Dean Wormer (John Vernon) says the following to Flounder (Stephen Furst):
"Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son." |

"No, I Am your Father."
I still get chills everytime I see that scene. No doubt it is the most famous movie scene ever. Even if you don't know anything about Star Wars, you know that line. the other one that always gets me is "Here's Johhhhhhhnnnnnnnyyyyy!!!!" as Jack Torrence hacks at the door with an ax. |
