Default At the end of the day, LOTR, Star Wars, Matrix will be the most

At the end of the day, Lord Of The Rings series, Star Wars series, and the Matrix series will be the most sought out Blu-Ray movies. Am I right?

Don't hold your breath on Star Wars! Lucas isn't exacctly fast to react to the consumer. If history has taught us anything it's that Lucas does what he wants, when he wants!

Well back when he did say that if anything he'd release the star wars franchise on Blu-Ray rather than HD DVD

I think it's pretty obvious these titles are the most desired. But Star Wars will outweigh them all, but like has been said don't hold your breath.

I suspect that when Star Wars is released Lucas is going to make it worth every penny. I bet the picture is going to be amazing. Unfortunately I think we will be waiting a loooong time for it. Look how long it took to get the original 3 Star Wars movies on DVD.

If I had to pick one of the three, my choice would be LOTR. But I agree with you on your point.

Do you think any of these will be the first title to break a million discs?

Personally, I'm hoping we will see higher capacity discs soon so we can have a reference-quality edition of LotR Extended Editions! Even using a multi-disc player to speed the time of a disc change, I hate the break in the middle of the movie. It's just wrong.

I believe the reason it took Lucas so long to release SW to DVD was because he wanted to skip DVD and go straight to HD... but that proved to be a bad idea. So after 7 years, he finally released them to DVD. Now that HD (aka Blu-ray) IS out, I think he is much more likely to release his titles onto them. However I do not expect to see this till 2009 or 2010, at the earliest.
(I just hope he fixes some of the bugs he missed when he "remastered" the original 3... and provides the original theatrical with it)

Gladiator will give any single movie a run for its money in overall sales numbers IMO.

The user base is still too small to release these films though. I wouldnt look for any of them before the 08' holiday. Maybe not even that soon.

I would have to substitute Indiana Jones for the Matrix.

Hmmm, Matrix is a "lost" property I think the two sequels killed it's aura and commercial prospects past the curiosity factor. I can find tons of used Matrix DVDs in most DVD shops, (even the first one), people just got tired of this franchise.
Plus the remastering of the first all green to look like the two others is just ugly looking on HD. (Matrix box set HD-DVD can be found used for 20 $ in stores !)

Star Wars have a little more wind in sails, but my guess is the audience is fairly young, therefore sticks to SD. The older audience who grew up with the old trilogy might make it a success on HD, that is, if Lucas ever re-release a box set with both new and old versions on HD (I doubt he will).

Lords of the rings : sure a huge hit in sales thought !

I am more interested in LOTR than SW or Matrix. I have them taped from TNT HD and they do look good even that way, and I have played the EE in the PS3 and there are moments they look stunning. There are also others where the digital effects are not as smooth and you can almost see the compositing between the actors and the digital effects.

Matrix comes out this year at some point according to WB, so it will be the first to get hit up.

I am more interested in how they will use the Blu-Ray Techno on SW and LOTR, specificially the new pop up menus and branching possibilities. It would be grreat, but unlikely since he has been a stubborn SOB in the past, to get the option to branch from original unaltered trilogy to 1997 special editions to even the newest versions on DVD. Same with LOTR and the theatrical vs. EE's.

While it would seem the most sensible and complete way to seal the whole SW experience into one big boxset, it wont happen. At most, we'll get all 6 movies in a set in their most recent forms, or maybe he'll be generous and do branching from the 1997 SE to the DVD releases.

Cringe- that lame ass song on at the end of Jedi- I want the "Yub Yub" Ewok song back. But this has been covered endlessly on the net- not the point of this thread

As far as Gladiator- I want that movie too, but I dont think it will have the ability to sell as predicted above, although being a single disc versus box sets could help it depending on how you compare sales. Cost also.

You know, as much as I love the films, I never bought the first Ind. Jones DVD box set cause I thought the bonus features were crap. But with the new movie coming out, I am guessing that could definitely be a big release in the holidays, along with Batman.

I am guessing the big hits this year- Batman, Matrix, and Ind.Jones
