Default Which are you getting, the Show vs 2k8 and Why?

I am leaning toward the show for a few reasons;
1) I got burned with 2k7 last year and am a bit bitter about it.
2) The show has a demo out for us to try which was pretty sound
3) From what I can tell it looks like the show will have a more in depth season/gm league
4) Unlocking cards is not a big deal to me and seems to be a major premise of 2k8

I will read the reviews before making my final decision but that is how I am leaning.

I am going with the show. Last years 2k7's had great graphics, terrible gameplay. They only update rosters a few times. The show updates rosters and stats weekly. The show doesn't have as good of graphics, but a much better game.

I'm going with the show and I haven't even looked at 2k7. I was so impressed with the demo, I just want to support this dev team for getting so much right with videogame baseball!

I'm going with the show. The demo has me hooked. I'm not that great at hitting yet but it is a lot of fun.

Yeah there's a lot of strategy involved. You can't just swing away at anything. You have to be patient at the plate and look for a good pitch to hit. Plus you have to decide if you're going to bat for accuracy (X) or for power ([ ]).

I'm getting The Show, because the just the demo was awesome. It's so immersive.

If I want an "arcade" baseball game, like 2k8, I'll crack open my Sega Genesis copy of Tommy Lasorda Baseball.

When playing The Show 08, I can't think of anything it's missing (for me).

I haven't bought a baseball game in eons and a sports game in 5 years (and I played that NBA game for about 2 hours). That's how much The Show impressed me.

The only thing I can think of that is missing is the minor league teams. I want to be able to develop young talent in the minor leagues and bring them up to the majors.

Yeah, I thought about that. But, I decided I didn't care. It's so unrealistic.

?? What's so unrealistic? The game or the ability to develop players in the minors?

No, no. I meant the concept.

Forget the game for a moment. In real life, the minors are filled with tons of "5 tool" players that never materialize and "unknowns" that surprise.

A game can't even begin to imitate that without resorting to a RNG-type system for growth. I think my nerdy simulation side (used to play Scoresheet, et al) is showing, so I'll stop here.

Now, what would be cool is if the game had minor league players and it updated their stats along with their real world stuff. So, you can kind of play along.

It would be easy to do too. All they need is a Stats, inc subscription for the data and presto.

However, they won't do it, because all sports game makers like milking you each and every year. God forbid they make a game with any longevity to it.

Personally, I'd like to see one kick but game title with stats/extra updates that releases a new main version every 2-3 years when they have real advancements in play.

Tell me about it! I've been screaming at EA to do this with Madden for years now! They should only release a new game every 2 years and then release an update/expansion the years in between. It could be avaliable either by download or by disk. I'm sorry but one calendar year is not enough time for them to make any significant changes/improvements to the engine.

I bet a lot of people feel that way. Not many are willing to buy more than one baseball game.

You guys should try The Bigs if they have it this year. I played last year's over at Best Buy and it was really fun. They have this Matrix type mode when turing double plays and hitting homeruns. It is more arcade like than an authentic baseball game like The Show but it was pretty fun! Hopefully they will have a new version.

First of all, I have the BIGs and it is timeless fun. It's sorta realistic except for the flaming pitches sometimes and the matrix plays at other times.
But from what I've heard The Show is just a much better game than 2k8.

Some of the people I play online prefer The Show, some prefer the 2K series. So I plan to get both just like I did last year.
