PS3 on wireless network

I have been reading these forums for awhile now in anticipation of the arrival of the PS3. Now I have one and I am writing my first post.

I have my PS3 on a wireless network. Is there any way the PS3 will see other computers with shared folders and display the photo or play the music files in them. I assumed this is the way the PS3 would work on a wireless network. I have read in the manual that it will only read files from plug in devices like UBS drives or a memory stick.
