Babylon 5 what order to watch movies and tv seasons

I have the babylon 5 movies, the tv seasons, and the 2 other discs. lost tales and ??
what is the correct order to watch them in??

i knew this at one time but don't remember now .... i think one of the movies is the pilot episode ..... so that first then season 1 ...... after that not sure.

Watch out for the movie called "In the Beginning". It sounds like the first one to watch, but isn't. Wait until at least after season 3 before watching it because it will reveal things you are not supposed to know until later and you will spoil some of the early seasons if you watch it first

So I would reccomend watching them in the order they were made which would be

Gathering (pilot)
Seasons 1-4
In The beginning
Season 5
Thirdspace
River of Souls
Call to Arms
Crusade season 1

I, being the curious kind, did a little more looking into the order on various sites and came up with a more detailed suggested order list:


In the Beginning has the main action ocurring in the decade of the 2240's as a "tale" being told in the year 2278, but as mentiond previously if you haven't watched the series yet, you probably should wait* till after you've watched most of the Seasons.

In the Beginning premiered between the 4th and 5th Seasons so that's one place to watch it. Others could be after most of Season 5 and River Of Souls but before the last episode of Season 5, or if you've watched it all, you could start again in strict chronological order . I've inserted In the Beginning in 4 possible places to watch.

Thirdspace is supposed to occur between about episodes 8 and 9 of Season 4.

Then there are the spinnoffs/after the fact/many years discs: The Legend Of The Rangers, Calls To Arms/Crusade, and Lost Tales.

Crusade, being cancelled mid season, it's not complete (heh almost like watching old lost Dr. Who chronologies), and there are several episode orders proposed, aired, or otherwise (TNT, chronological, SciFi, and suggested by master chronologists). After much convolution looking at all these Crusade lists, I distilled one with one option.

I wonder if there is any chance we could see these in HD someday.

If it requires re-doing all the CGI for widescreen, then I doubt it will ever see BD.

Still would not mind a BD release of as many episodes as they can fit on BD.

The reason I'm doing it this way is because the first block gives the proper internal order during the series run (with 'In the Beginning' told from a later perspective), and then the second block I'm going to view in order that B5 fans got it after the show was over, several years apart. Once I've watched the entirety of Block 1 I figure I'll have enough perspective to see what it was like to have new material in Block 2 released out of continuity.

Lost Tales is most likely HD ready, the rest I'm not sure about. I’m pretty sure Babylon 5 Season 1-5 CGI will have to be redone to make it HD ready. That’s of course if they can find all the Masters.

On the positive side, thanks to Lost Tales, they already have a new, more detailed models of Babylon 5 and updated detail of the Docking Bay, Starfury, Centauri Fighter and Warship, Updated Jumpgate and jump points, I think the Minbari Warship among a few others.

Everything in Lost Tales was completed for HD. The problem is WB didn't release it in HD except, allegedly, on XBLive.

The rest was framed for 16x9, but the effects weren't(as seen on the DVDs).

If they can get the folks that worked on Lost Tales to redo the FX for the whole series, that would be great, but for their time, the FX were unbeatable.
