Ken Burns' The Civil War. You have no idea what an impact that film had on my friends in Europe. Some even planned trips to America to visit the battlefields after seeing the film. Prior to that they had no interest in going to America. After seeing the battlefields they returned to England and the Continent and watched the film again. That's an impact if you ask me.

Gods and Generals is a great movie. It's a shame that people won't watch it because they think it's either too long or that it shows Southern sympathy. I was totally into the movie and didn't want it to end. I also thought that it did a good job of being neutral to both sides.
People need to clear these misconceptions out of their heads and enjoy this great movie! |

My favorites are:
Gettysburg God's and Generals Glory Other early era movies worth watching might include: The Patriot John Adams (An HBO series, now on DirecTV in HD) |

As an African-American, and a person that can trace his lineage back to the Civil War - it would have to be GLORY hands down!

The Patriot was based on the American Revolution not the Civil War. Easy Mistake to make though.
I see you are from the UK so in civil war standards this would apply to you, but I think he meant only the American Civil War. |

I agree, it shows the Civil War as it was, not hollywood revisionist history, and since it shows and tells the true cause of the war and not the "PC" version, a lot of people don't like it. |
