PS3 connection probelm

My friend's PS3 does not want to connect to the internet properly. I was wondering if anyone on here has experienced this problem. He has tried wifi and direct connect through an ethernet port. The problem is as follows:

i try to sign up for the playstation network
says no connection, check your settings
most of the time it says connection timed out
the few times that it worked, it told me to download updates
when i went to updates, it timed out again

Any ideas/suggestions?

You can try to test the connection in Network settings, if anything fails, make sure to check the settings.

If this is a Firmware update I would download it from your Local Sony website put it on a USB stick and update like that!

A few questions I would have is whats the Wifi strenght like? What hardware i.e router etc...?

Do you have any other wireless devices that you can use to check your wireless connection. Alot of wireless routers have problems and require you to restart it. I had a d-link that I replaced because it did it constantly.

I had a similiar thing happen to me. What had happened is my cable/internet had gone out overnight. when I got up in the morning I had to reset the modem and the router. No problems after reset. My PS3 is set up WiFi. Do you have WiFi? If so try a cable and see if it fixes the problem.

if you live in Chicago you internet should not suck....maybe you need to upgrade your router bro....
