Default Amazon UK pricing

Does anyone know why the Amazon.co.uk site changes the price lower once the item is added to your cart and your about to pay for it. It lowers it about 2 pounds from the listed price.

That is because you are American and you live in the USA. You aren't getting a discount once you learn the real reason behind the slight price change.

So the lowered price is not the actual price I would pay. I took the transaction all the way to the last screen you click before final payment and the lowered price was still there with the total price including shipping.

No, no, no. I thought you could figure out the situation on your own but I guess not. I'll lay it out simply for you:

the reason why it is slightly cheaper for you is simply what I said: you are American (living in the US). You are not getting charged the sales tax that applies to the product because it is out of the UK and EU. You are not getting a discount. You're getting what the price should be had the UK not charge so much in sales tax.

Dude, you were being a bit cryptic with your response. I understand, and thank you for replying.

What title(s) are you buying, by the way? It's so expensive cos of the US $ - UK Pound exchange rate. It's even worse with the US - EURO rate.

Because you are a buyer outside the European Union and 17.5% VAT is deducted from your purchase.

I was just gonna say that, if dude would have said that in the beginning he would have saved a few keystrokes.
Evidently the UK gets taxed heavily on purchases and we dont through our Amazon(at least yet), It shows 0.00 VAT on the invoice when you get it

So in the US there's no tax on things like DVDs, Blu-rays etc. but in the UK and EU there is?

The US has sales Tax which is about 8%. EU displayed prices always include the VAT whereas US prices do not.
