Quick Question - Blu-ray Forum

This is a really n00b question I'm sure, but I can't seem to find a conclusive answer. So the difference between the 20/60gb systems and the 80gb is hardware vs software PS2 support. I get that much. But does the software support mean you can still use the upscaling/smoothing options?
Just a quick yes/no answer is fine. Don't know why it is hard to find this information

You probably still can use the upscaling/smoothing. The software only limits how well the games are played.

Okay lets try this...

20/60 full hardware
80 1/2 hardware + software emulation
40 0 hardware + 0 software emulation

Can still upscale dvds aswell btw!

You can also use smoothing on the classic ps1 titles that you download.

Doesn't the 40GB support PS1 games still? I thought its "zero backwards compatibility" was restricted to PS2 titles?

Some PlayStation format software has has trouble running on PS2 and PS3 emulation of the format. Emulation is never perfect for every title.

I'm not talking about just playing the games. I'm talking SPECIFICALLY about the ability to upscale/smooth the PS2 games that CAN play.

Thanks! That is ALL I wanted to know. I am deciding between sending my 20gb in to be fixed or getting an 80gb once MGS4 comes out. I don't play that many PS2 games anymore but there are a couple I don't want to lose. I think they are all on the compatable list.
