I have just hooked up my 3808 ci to my Sharp BH-H20U and set the settings correctly I think, well on the unit the Dolby TrueHD will not light up, even chancing settings on the BD player and on the Denon unit. it will even not show it as an option on the Denon menu of sound choices. I need help all I get lit up on the unit is Dolby PLx II and DTS mode. Thanks

That is what happened to me. With my Panny player my Denon receiver decoded and displayed the type audio. With my new Denon player, it decodes the audio and my receiver just displays "multi-channel audio."

I have my denon set to auto so it will receive the signal that I select from whatever disc I am playing. Try setting the receiver to auto and then selecting the audio mode you want from the movie setup. Also this may be obvious but you need to run HDMI to decode your HD signals. Also depending on what blu ray player you have it may not be capable of decoding DD True HD my Sony BDP-S300 will not.

The Sharp is set to Dolby true hd on the I Am Legend Blue Ray, and the setting is set to PCM surround via HDMI. But still I dont see the logo on the Denon unit, will it ever show with my configuration.? Also if i switch from English on the I Am Legend Blueray it displays multi ch in and then to English Dolby TrueHD, it changes on the denon unit to Multi ch in 7.1, is that the Dolby true-HD mode.? Thanks Again. Last edited by rrios28; 04-11-2008 at 09:37 AM. Reason: revise |

To get the True-HD logo on your Denon 3808ci, you have to receive the signal from you BD player through bitstream. But your BD player does not support bitstreaming True-HD. It will only send it via LPCM. That's why you are only getting "Multi Channel Input" displayed on youre 3808ci. But believe me, you are getting True-HD even though it is not shown on your display.

I figured this out over the weekend. The 3800's default audio setting is set to "mix audio output." This is so you can access the secondary audio (which is usually not HD) on a disc. If you change the setting to "HD audio output" then only the primary audio is put through and my receiver displayed the appropriate Dolby HD, DTS Master Audio, etc. of various discs. To change settings refer to the 3800's manual on pages 29 and 32.
I am sure the proper HD audio is being put through on the "mix audio output" setting, but it is nice to see the receiver light up the specific name and I myself, rarely access the secondary audio sources. |
