Default Sam Adams Utopias

For all you beer drinkers, does anybody know where you can buy Sam Adams Utopias, or any of their special edition brews? They don't even have them listed on their website (but that could just be since they had it for the holidays).

Also, has anyone ever tried one? Any reviews?

There are usually stores in your area that can order that stuff for you. You just have to find a beer/wine specialty store.

Any decent liquor store will usually order any kind of beer, wine, etc. that you want. Just don't go into one in the hood and you should be okay.

I've had it, not much of a fan. Dogfish-Head has a 23% monster they call a stout (but it's probably more properly considered a Barleywine) and it's GREAT... I can't remember the name at the moment though.

I've pursued the Sam Adams "Ultimate Beers" (Utopia is the highest grade of them). I've grabbed the Imperial Pilsner, which is great, and the lowest rung of the ultimate beers (easiest to find).

The Utopias are purposefully scant, they do not make very many, and they are quite pricey (one bottle, while larger than a regular beer bottle, will run you $300). The beer is the highest alcohol count of beer, at 25%.

There are some on eBay, for what it's worth. Else, like stated above, a good liquor store may be able to get ahold of one, but they usually have a long waiting list (the ones in my area can get it, they only get a handful per year, and you'll have to wait in line).

Hope that helps.

They're close to impossible to find west of the Mississippi River...shoot...you can't even get real Sam Adams west of it...its brewed by Rolling Rock anywhere further than Mass. it seems.

Good Luck!!! I'll stick with my Big Foot Ale...not quite 25%, but, 9.6% ain't too shabby.

Dog Fish Head 120-Minute IPA is just about my limit for APV for me. At 20%, it has just enough hops to hide the alcohol taste. As it warms, it starts getting a nasty bite that some other high APV beers (like Sam Adams Tripple Bock) have even when cold.

I have a Dog Fish head restaurant by me, so I can get the stuff on tap all year round. Yum!

I think they may have that on tap down here in Tampa. There's a place called World Of Beer that's got a lot of obscure stuff. I'll have to see if they've got that 120-minute IPA, I know they carry a lot of DFH stuff.

Anybody ever had an Oak Aged Yeti?

It actually does as long as you drink it cold. Its definitely not for the tame, but for serious beer drinkers. I was wrong though, the 120-minute is not on tap year round, they just usually have it. I'll usually go with the 90-minute IPA because drinking out of a snifter is high class!

Triple bock is not beer, taste nothing like beer and imo is horrible. Impossible to get drunk off it because after 3 sips you are ready to rinse out your mouth with scope or puke in your mouth so that nasty after taste goes away.

If you are a beer fan stay far far away from triple bock trust me on this one.

Agreed. Been there, done that, will pass on the triple (or trippel) bock from now on.

Depends on where you live and what the local beer and liquor laws are like. It is actually illegal for stores in some states to sell Sam Adams Utopia because it is classified as beer but exceeds the maximum allowable alcohol content for beer in those states.
See here.
