HDMI Cable - Blu-ray Forum

Not sure if this is the right spot; so if it's not, sorry. Anyhow, I am in the middle of getting my new audio set up for my entertainment center and am completely changing where the a/v equipment is. Everything (ps3, computer, nintendo, cable) will be running in through the pioneer vsx-1018 when it comes out in June. From there, I need an HDMI cable that will be about 35 feet long to my panasonic projector. Do I need an HDMI v1.3 cable if its just going for video to the projector, or will http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 do fine? If I should go with 1.3, does anyone have a suggestion with what one to go with; monoprice doesn't get any 1.3 in until the end of the month.

Many, many people on this forum are big on Monoprice cables. I've never used them, but their prices are hard to ignore. I bought all my HDMI cables (35' to projector, and shorter ones for my cable box/PS3 to receiver connections) from Bettercables.com. I'm sure someone will say I got ripped off, but that's OK. Although companies like Monster and Bose charge a premium for their name, and I'd never use them, to a certain extent, I believe you get what you pay for. I'm very happy with the cables from bettercables. They're thick, well manufactured, and of very high quality. I figured why would I spend 8k on home theater equipment, then connect it with low-budget cable. I appreciate what Monoprice is trying to do, and understand why many would go with them, however I guess I'm not completely sold on them yet.

i would most certainly go with the series-1 from bluejeanscable.com they have been tested as some of the best for hdmi over distance, i am running a 40 foot one and i don't have any problems. amazing build quality too

Kinda off topic, but here's what I think about HDMI.

HDMI sucks, regardless or what brand of cable you use. It does a great job transfering the video and audio, but it is a complete engineering disaster. The damn things come disconnected every time somthing barely touches it. Every time I try to load a disc in my PS3, the cable comes out.

I have all HDMI interconnects, and have never had a cable come loose. Mine came from cobaltcable.com.

I agree that the HDMI plugs need improvement. Toslink audio cables plug in with a satisfying snap ... why not HDMI?

Oh, I know what your problem is. You plugged the HDMI cable into the disc slot.

Back to the basic question, should I get HDMI v1.3 for transmitting to http://www.projectorpeople.com/proje...?itemid=23153? I am passing just the video obviously, and don't know if I will see the difference on a 35 foot cable between the 1.2 and 1.3 because I haven't compared them.

Edit. Spoke with the people at projectorpeople, where I bought the projector, and they said there would be no noticable difference. Went with the 1.2 from monoprice. Thanks guys.

Set your system for 1080p and try 1080p content. Check whether you could see white dots/sparkles on the screen. If you can't see any problems you are okay. If you see any problems on the screen, return this cable and get the 1.3.

All my cables come from Monoprice.

(Well,.. since I found out about monoprice that is.. I have some old Monster interconnects for ages ago.)

At this time I would only buy the 1.3. I recently bought a 6 foot 1.3 HDMI cable to go from my PS3 to my new AVR but the 25 foot HDMI to DVI cable that feeds my pj is older and 1.3 wasn't around then (or wasn't as popular) so I guess it's not 1.3.

the HDMI 1.3 revision is built into hardware(BD players, receivers, etc...) not the cable. you can use an HDMI cable that was manufactured before HDMI 1.3 was implemented in hardware and get the same result.

for example, i can use an HDMI cable i bought a few years ago and still bitstream lossless audio codecs which is specific to HDMI 1.3 hardware.

HDMI 1.3 cable are supposed to be tested to pass all HDMI 1.3 content. BUT, i have a old HDMI cable (35' from monoprice bought 3 years ago) and work fine in 1080p with my projector ...

Yeah I went with the 1.2 35 foot cable. Also picked up 100 feet of 12 gauge O2 free audio cable with some banana plugs to wire all my new speakers

. Everything comes in tomorrow and my grandpa is building my new bracket for the projector right now, so I'll let you guys know how it works.

Always be cautious when work with HDMI cables. They have the potential to damage your new equipment. Please, do not plug/unplug HDMI while equipment is working. HDMI connector is flimsy and the cables are heavy and it could pull out by itself if you don't sticky tape the cable in place.

Good luck with your project. It is very sweet that your grandpa is helping you out on this project. How old is he? Please convey my regards to him.
