Default PS3 Volume

Just out of interest...when you guys watch a blu ray or dvd on your ps3 what setting do you have the PS3 volume set at? You know that little menu you can access when you press triangle? you can set it -2 thru + 2.

I keep mine set at 0. I was listening to a dts-CD last week and when I increased the volume to +1, the sound cut-out.

my ps3 came set as +2. It made CD's sound like crap!! Turn it to 0, let your receiver do the adjusting...not the PS3.

I also keep mine at 0. Within 2 months of the PS3's launch, I had upgraded to a bigger HDD, and imported nearly all of my CD collection to my PS3. When I started listening to the songs I noticed that the music sounded distorted, especially on the harder tunes. I thought I did something wrong when I imported the discs, or that maybe I should have copied them at a different frequency. Luckily, before I formatted the drive to start over (it took me a long fricken time) I checked the pop up menu and noticed that the volume was set to +2. Setting it to 0 fixed the problem with the sound, and I've left it there ever since

I keep it at zero, unless I'm using remote play with my psp

I get distortion if I put it to + anything.

I have a question in regards to you putting your CD collection on the PS3. What size external hard drive did you use? How did you put your CD's on there? How long did it take you? I would love to do this, but I have no idea where to start.
Thanks for any info/instructions you could give me.

1. Place music cd in ps3
2. Go into your audio settings and pick which codec you want the ps3 to use and what freqency.
3. Go to your cd and hit triangle there should be a option for ripping the disc...
4. Wait...
5. Boyah you have the cd stored with your select codec at the set frequency place another disc and repeat step until your happy.

Based on the codec used and frequency will determine the size of a cd, I would imagine no less then 1mb-5mb.

Thanks. I didn't realize it was that easy. So how many can I put on there based on 40g HDD?
Thanks again.

I have roughly 100 CD's on my HDD that take up in the neighbourhood of 6-7 GB. File size can vary, though, depending on the codec and frequency used. The majority of the discs I imported were done using the MP3 codec at 44.1 Hz, and each CD is roughly 60 MB for a full album. It took me a good long while to do it too, spread out over a month, each CD took around 5-10 minutes (just guestimating here, as it was almost a year and a half ago that I did this). Plus, it took more time to download disc cover art, and apply the right cover to the proper tracks/albums. And, I didn't download to an external HDD. I replaced the 20GB with a 100GB, and put the 20GB into an external case.

All in all, it looks very slick when I have friends over and they play music off my PS3. The songs are organized by album, and each album Icon shows the proper cover art for the appropriate CD. The cover art also transfers to each song in a playlist. The only thing that bugs me, is when I copy songs or playlists to my PSP's memory stick the art doesn't always go with it.

Nice. So in ref to the disc cover art, did that download from the CD's themselves?

Unfortunately, no. I had to hunt down the .jpg files off the internet for each CD before applying them. In a weird quirk. If you don't keep those .jpg files on the PS3 HDD, when you transfer a song or album to a playlist, external HDD, Flash Drive, memory stick, etc... you lose the cover art. So, I keep all the album covers together in one folder on my PS3's HDD as well.

Cool, thanks. I guess I'll start playing around with a few CD's when I get home.
Thanks for the great info. I appreciate it.

Good Luck..

I turned my celtic cd, a garfield funny songs cd, and some collection of old songs already.

Oh and some relaxation discs such as Sundancer, weird stuff anyway.

Just wanted to let you know I followed your instructions when I got home yesterday and ripped about 15 CD's to the PS3. Nice. Worked perfectly. I'm seriously thinking about buying an external hard drive(like 750g) and doing all my CD's that way.
Thanks again for that great info.

Normally at 0 but occasionally at +1 or +2 depending on the movie and especially if I'm using headphones. Using +2 often causes distortion though, if there are any loud sound effects.

I didn't even know this was an option. But now that I know about it, I can forget about it.
