Default Louis Leterrier talks "Incredible Hulk" BD w/ 70 minutes extra footage

Quote:
Question: I have to ask you…there’s been a lot of talk about the 2 different cuts that exist on the movie. Obviously the DVD is going to have more footage.
Louis Leterrier: Yeah.

Question: So, could you talk about what was cut out of the film, like is there 15 minutes?
Louis Leterrier: No, the final way of me cutting this…maybe there’s like 10-15 minutes of stuff, but there’s a lot of stuff like on the Blue-Ray I think we’ll have 70 minutes of stuff.

Question: Seventeen or…
Louis Leterrier: Seventy. 7-0.

Question: 70!
Louis Leterrier: Yeah, because you shoot a lot of stuff, yeah. What’s another picture? Yeah, but that’s what great. It’s like the back story. It’s more the sequel to the Ang Lee movie.

Question: I have to ask you…so the Blue-Ray…the DVD just has a little bit…
Louis Leterrier: No the Blue-Ray…it’s whatever we can put on the DVD. Like DVD’s you have like 3 hours of like yeah…you have a limit of 3 hours of footage and stuff. The Blue-Ray you have something like 100 hours, so if they do a double DVD but like the Blue-Ray is what’s going to be good. So on the Blue-Ray I’m trying to put as much of the stuff…I want to put everything we shot, you know? I’m not the kind of guy that likes to keep the stuff for myself. I’m like, okay you student filmmakers, here’s what I did right and here’s what I did wrong and in some of the stuff, in the 70 minutes, there’s some great stuff and there’s some really horrible stuff, but you’ll see it all, you know?

Question: What about the behind-the-scenes material?
Louis Leterrier: Oh there’s like tons of stuff like great stuff. That’s actually much longer. We’ve got like 3 hours of material—how we made the “Hulk” and everything. That’s great stuff.

Question: Getting into the 70, is it all character stuff? Is it certain…
Louis Leterrier: Oh, there’s action stuff. There’s everything. We cut everything. We give you the nice haircut like yours.

On the one hand, I think "cool!" and hope that more bd's will come out in this way and take advantage of the format. On the other hand I really worry about the encode and if it'll end up being bit-starved for all the extras he's talking about putting on the disk. Guess we'll have to see.

Well that's enough to keep me from wasting my money on the cinema for this one!

Fantastic news.

There will also be the scene where Banner finds Captain America.

Wow, I'm the opposite. I had no intentions of seeing this in the theater, but the commercials make it look like it's something to be seen on the big screen. So I may check it out.

BTW, it's still almost hard to believe seeing the Universal logo on our home page. Glad to see it, and glad we'll get some sort of Hulk Director's Cut later this year.

The theatrical cut doesn't feel gimped. I strongly suggest you experience it in a good first-run theater.

Fantastic news.
The version in theaters will be the version on disc. There will be no seamless branching or footage added. They will just be extras.

Not as drastic as the two "Exorcist: the Beginning"'s, but close.
For all of you: The movie in the theaters is the Directors cut. It is the version that will be on DVD and blu-ray. The 70 minutes will be among the extras. The article alludes that it will be part of the movie. this is not true. It also alludes that Captain America himself is in the movie. This is also not true.

Louis Leterrier is French. English is not his first language. He gets very excited in interviews and says things that don't interpret well, and in english mean things a little different than what he means to say. Some interviewers know this and ask for clarification and at that point he will clarify correctly when he realizes that he was misunderstood.

The 70 minutes includes EVERYTHING that was filmed. Much of it will probably be very rough. No FX. Some of it will be very good. Some of Ed Norton's scenes he didn't want cut, and some of Leterrier's scenes that he didn't want to see cut. Leterrier goes on to say in the interview:

Quote:
Question: I have to do one quick follow-up. Comic-Con’s coming up in July, obviously you might go down there for “Hulk”, do you think…

Louis Leterrier: I don’t know.

Question: …well, maybe. Do you think there’s any chance of you showing some of those deleted scenes you talked about the 70 minutes at Comic-Con for the fans?

Louis Leterrier: Guys, do not do this--and action.

Question: No, but I’m being serious. That might a really nice treat for the fans.

Louis Leterrier: That would be nice, yeah. We’ll see. It’s just I tell you; it’s not that interesting. I mean, it’s interesting….only the good stuff is in the movie. We just took out the bad stuff that’s why. We didn’t take out any of the good stuff otherwise it would be a shame. No, really I swear.
The interviewer has no clue that these are just extras. I'm sure in the next couple of days someone will ask him to clarify and he will.

spoiler tags added just in case. what's discussed next is NOT in the movie:

A lot of the scenes that are cut are
[Show spoiler]the flashbacks (everything that is in the opening montage was actually filmed). The arctic scene that was going to open the film (he is in the arctic and he goes to the middle of nowhere to kill himself. When he finally puts the gun to his head, that arm turns into the Hulk and prevents him from doing it. he then transforms and falls into the ocean. supposedly, this is where we get a quick glimpse of Captain America frozen). and almost everything with Leonard Sampson (he's Betty's new flame until Bruce comes back into the picture. he also tries to psycho analyze Bruce and a few other tidbits that MAY be in the movie so I won't spoil).

One last quote from Leterrier about the 70 minutes:

Quote:
You know when you do your first movie, you do an assembly. Everything that you’ve shot you put it into an assembly. Then after the assembly, you screen it. And it’s called a suicide run because it’s absolutely horrible. You want to commit suicide after you see it. You’re like, “oh I wasted 2 years of my life, $150 million. This is the worst movie ever.
That's the version with 70 extra minutes. It's a cool EXTRA, because no one's ever done it before. Show the public EVERYTHING. Most of it will probably be pretty lame, but there should be some gems in there.
