Default V for Vendetta Review

Was the 5 stars across the board in Sir Terrence's review intentional? It seemed like he had some negative comments, thus the movie not warranting 5 stars in every category.

I thought it was a 4 in terms of PQ.

Alas, I foresee this thread spiraling out of control into direct attacks onto the credibility of the reviewers of this site.

(not by me, I enjoy reading the work of these chaps)

No, no, no - Aygie, I don't mean you. I mean other more surreptitious (unscrupulous works well here, too) members of this forum who will no doubt sneak into this thread somehow eventually. I hope not. In any case - no, it was not a re-encode. It was the straight up HD-DVD port.

Yeah, this is the first review that I've really thought was off. V looks good but it's a bit soft and lacking of detail across the board. I'd say 4's, not 5. Giving it a perfect score is more than a little bit of a stretch.

I also JUST watched this today, so it's really fresh in my mind. Oh well, he has good commentary for people to make decisions either way.

No worries, going to pick this up as i do really like the film.

I think the biggest problem is the way a lot of people will down play a HD-DVD encode even if its good.

Like Batman Begins, it went from being one of HD-DVDs best to absolute crap (just because their using the same encode for the Blu) I dont know what to think anymore!

Since when do reviewers of a disc tell the entire plot and storyline in the review, all the way to the end? My goodness, if you haven't seen the movie, you're screwed now.

Seems like you just want to give a brief plot outline, no go scene by scene like this guy. I think he should offer an apology for those who hadn't seen the film yet.

And the assignment of stars definitely seemed like a typo. Mediocre video gets 5 stars? This is definitely the kind of thing that will lead to a downfall of credibility. I personally do not take reviews at the blu-ray.com at face value. After being disappointed by the incredibly high marks of movies like Sunshine and Rambo, I need a second opinion.

I actually meant to say audio. Just to clarify the statement above, here are a few direct quotes from the review:

*In spite of all of the good audio things happening, all was not perfect.

*The 5.1 16/48khz Dolby TrueHD audio encode is generally very good.

Do these sound like comments from a 5-star reference-quality BD? No.

And whats with the closing statement: "The bombastic ending sort of left me breathless in its bombastic powerful wake." HUH?

I completely agree with your review assessment...waaaay too much information was given out...

You can tell that Sir Torrence is a huge fan of this movie through his review, so is definitely not a non-biased review.

I love ya, Sir Torrence, but, you were so not the guy to review this one...I feel you are a Vendetta fanboy just from reading it.

Default VforV Five Stars - Are you serious?

A perfect rating for the disc as a whole? Did I get a different disc? There's no way in hell this deserves a five star rating for video OR audio quality. Even in the audio section of the review it says "all is not perfect."

reviewers reviews are subjective remember. someone else gives it high marks another will give it lower, it's the way of the reviewer.

Default V for Vendetta gets ALL 5.0's here??

Are you kidding me? Generally the reviews here are pretty decent but I can't believe V for Vendetta getting 5.0's across the board. It's a good Blu-ray but I just don't see it as being 100% perfect. Even the reviewer says about the audio.....

Quote:
In spite of all of the good audio things happening, all was not perfect. Surround usage was sorely lacking, which gave the effect of the lack of envelopment. While there was the occasional split surround effect, the surrounds did little to contribute to the overall mix. The entire audio mix in my opinion is a little front heavy. This really is my only peeve with the audio in this film. Overall the soundtrack did a fine job of providing an enhancement to the story line.

How can you say "all was not perfect" with the audio and then give it s 5.0?

I don't think video deserved a 5.0 either honestly. Compare Vendetta to I, Robot and that much is obvious.

Very strange, IMO this is not a 5.0 across the board. I initially thought "mistake", too. Not that the blu is bad, it isn't, but all 5's?!

EDIT - I really have an issue with the audio being a 5.0, it definitely is not deserving of a 5 (I'd go probably 4.0 myself). Sometimes the dialogue was hard to hear (TrueHD track).

I thought the review didn't belong as well. Anything that starts off by saying "I'm a huge fan of the comic book series" is not going to be faithfully and accurately reviewed. I haven't yet viewed the disc (currently at home on the shelf) but I am reserving judgement until then. I just find it hard to believe that an HD-DVD port can get a perfect score when compared to other reference bluray titles such as I,Robot and Sunshine.

As much as I love the movie I would have to agree with that..

I would think 4's across the board or 4.5 tops... I was also suprised to see all 5's..
